G'Day, just thought i'd put some feelers out for this one! I'm seriously looking at putting a 4.2 turbo/intercooler diesel into my 97 patrol GQ. The engine is an MWM as found in the Ford F250. It is a multivalve, high pressure mechanical direct inject engine with both more power and heaps more torque than the nissan factory turbo. Very similar weight and size as the nissan donk. From memory it has 15Nm less torque than a turbo 6.5 chev V8!
Here's the problem: I've been in direct contact with the importer of these engines and we've had no luck with the engine conversion people ie marks, dellow,
castlemaine rod
shop etc. Most
places say they need at least 25 serious punters before they undertake R&D. So far only myself and one other person (both with GQ's) are interested. I think it would make a great conversion for both Patrols and 'Cruisers.
Here's the site for MWM Australia. MWM Sprint
