Les
I hope to be going to the races this year would
appreciate it if anyone can tell me of road
conditions from
Charleville to
Birdsville and
whether our 2 wheel drive wagon will cope.

Hi Les, you will enjoy the Races I hope. The road from
Charleville is bitumen to
Windorah and then for 120 klms west of
Windorah, then you turn onto the dirt for 300 klms into
Birdsville. The road is good at the moment and quite good enough for 2 wheel drive. Take it carefully - make sure you have two spare tyres and don't have too much air in the tyres. Plenty of 2 wheel drives come into
Birdsville and plenty of them towing vans and camper trailers. There will be a lot of traffic on the road should you need assistance. I suggest you
camp at
Windorah the last night so you have only 420 klms to do the last day. Of course, there are plenty of good
camp spots just off the road if you wish to shorten the trip. Happy travelling - see you when you arrive!
