Hi all
Just thought I'd let everyone know that since Cyclone Monica made a mess of the road there is a huge push to seal and "weatherproof" all the way to
Weipa and maybe tip from local pollies and mumblings from
Canberra as
well. it is a big feature in our local papers at the moment.
Am I the only one who would hate to see this happen? I know it would be good for some people....especially those that live there......but in the long term I assume a lot of us would avoid the place.
Well i would.
All the comments I get when i complain to whoever will listen is "thats progress or it will happen eventually anyway".
I think it will be a sad day when thousand of people flock to the cape in their hybrid electrics!
Cheers
Tez

The bleep ula is funny? I mis-spelt peninsula so I had part of the male anatomy in it....whoops.

Yeah I agree, probably will happen one day but i'd be dissapointed if I never got to do it the way it is now. As a relatively new fan of 4X4ing (
well, doing the big trips anyway) I won't be in a position to get to the Cape until next dry season 2007 at the earliest. Be a bit of a shame I'd reckon!

It'd be disapointing for us, but I presume not for the people that need to use it regularly. I think they should have the final say.
You have to remember that all the roads to everyones houses were once dirt and how glad are we that they're not.
Thanks for the info though. Now I'll have to try and get there beafore the sealing begins.
Cheers

I was told several years ago that a sealed the road to the tip was in the "planning stage" Since it was a Pollie who told me, I immediately disregarded the info. Reminds me of the
bridge to Russel Island.

Won't happen....too many people seem to want inner-city tunnels/bypasses first which soak up all the bucks. Unfortunately, votes seem to count more than necessities.

Just to add to the story, The QLD gov has been planning an all weathe road from
Bamaga to
Cairns as there is a propsal of a
gas pipeline from New Gunieu to
Townsville.
search the web and it is for real

John, that planning has been in the pipeline for years. Not sure of the status of the project, but every time I read about it , they have "finally reached agreement" etc etc. I guess its like the sealing of the Plenty and
Great Central Road....it will happen...one day.

hi all
I have lived in Far North Qld for the last 25 or so years. The Pollies have been saying that they are going to seal the cape roads for as long as i can remember
...dont panic.
If the qld gov cant even manage to have the road from
Townsville to
cairns all weather, they got no chance of doing the cape. Most of the money gets spent in SE Qld. not much left for the bush.
As for the road for the pipe line. A few years ago my job had me involved in some of the planning. If i remember rightly, the road was to be private...not for us, just pipeline people and traditional owners.
See ya
Ellen
