Hi All
I have just found a good STR navara second hand and was wondering if someone could help me with some info on a problem it has. The car has just been fitted with new tyres which are 265/75 x16 so they have gone a bit larger. On full lock they rub on the inner guard, knowing what it was i have told the saleman i want it sorted before purchasing. Id say the only way to fix it is new tyres which i want as the ones on it are cheapies and i want BFG Muddies. My question is to people runnig the 265/75 x 16 do you need a lift or bodylift to reduce rubbing?????? I was looking at lifting it shortly anyway.

Thanks Heaps Chris

First thing is are they legal on this vehicle? insurance wise mostly. You are only allowed 15 mm bigger in diameter than what is on the plate saying what tyres are fitted when new. So if they are illegal then they should not be selling you this vehicle with those tyres on. Now you may have a bit of leaveage with the salesman, good luck.

In QLD fitting a 265/75R16 is illegal due to the increase being over what is permitted. If memory serves me correct a 265/75R16 is an increase of around 27mm where only 15 mm is permitted.
Even if you do a lift it will still rub when articulating with a bit steering lock on.

The reason they put 265/75R16's on is because they are way cheaper

Stand your ground and make them put the correct size tyre on

Hi Kalboy. I have a 2003 str which i fitted bfg mud terrains to. I wanted to go to the bigger tyre as on the series 2 but when the tyre bloke looked up the bfg dogalog he said that the muddies were only avaible in the smaller (255) size, so on they went. Pretty happy with them. Not much road noise and wearing well. Hope this helps.
Cheers Gerard

Winding up the torsion bars lifts the front a fair bit and also firms up the ride a bit. Might be worth a try before lashing out on lift kits. Cheers
