I do not like the idea of driving at 30kph as one council wants in their streets.
Always stuck in 3rd gear....bgr, bgr, bgr.
What the ell is wrong with teaching people both young and old some road sense.
Next we will be back to the old red flag held in front whilst moving.
Lower limits does not do the job as those that speed doing 60k in a 40 zone are still going to do it anyway.
It,s a case of make the motorist responsible not the pedestrian.
Roads were made for vehicles and footpaths for pedestrians.

I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

If that's the idiotic Ashfield (NSW) council you're talking about Dodger, the RTA and NRMA have both pooh poohed the idea so I don't think it's got much hope of flying.

As frustrating as it may be, lets put it into perspective. You're very lucky to have these problems.

Robak,

Tragic and a waste but, and this may seem harsh, he gave up. Millions of others don't and live with tragedy, injustice etc every day of their lives. They're the ones we should support and think about.

I was trying to refer more to the tragedy of the child in the picture rather then the photographer.

It shows us how trivial and petty our lives have become.

I agree with you 100% as per my reference to the millions of others. The causes of these problems are many and diverse. As yet, we have not been able to solve even one of these and unfortunately we probably won't in our lifetimes. All you can do is help wherever you can in whatever way you can and hope that it has some effect on someone less fortunate than yourself.

[I'm not having a go at you Al - more the Western World in general]

>The causes of these problems are many and diverse. As yet, we
>have not been able to solve even one of these

As yet we have totally f...... _refused_ to even try to solve them solve them, in fact we have significantly contributed to them (Third World debt and/or arms sales anyone?). We want our rich comfortable Western lifestyle and the hell with everyone else. I'm no better than others in this regard but, by God, it's time we thought about how we live off the back of the Third World. We argue about Engels and Waecos whilst children starve to death!

Still... we're OK, aren't we?

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but as the years pass I have come to feel very strongly about this issue.

30kph? Don't be silly.

Speed doesn't kill - bad driving kills. Teach people to drive properly and there will be fewer accidents.

Another council just trying to win votes, pretty pathetic really.

Who are the people who come up with these ideas and who in their right mind would think it is a good idea.

If you went to the government with a plane to have realistic speed limits it wouldn’t get past reception but some how this other chit does.

Dodger, I agree with your point of view. Always new laws that punish the majority while the idiots will just break those laws. And then there's the whole 'being responsible for your own actions' thing and litigation; if you step onto the road in a daydream into traffic whose fault is that? If a child chases a ball onto the road they shouldn't have been playing there, but if the driver was doing 51 instead of 50 then the parents wont have to blame themselves and they may get rich as well!

Hi Dodger

I have heard that cars are dangerous things, and apparently 4WDs are even worse. I'm scared to go in my driveway, in case my Landcruiser decides to run me down!! You just can't trust cars.

Cheers
John
