I have been working on a new look and feel for ExplorOz over the last few days and I need some additional browser compatibility testing done. I have tested about 5 different setups but as you can understand I do not have all your computers setup in my office for testing.

To this end I have created a link to the NEW LAYOUT and would ask that if you could test it and make sure it works. If the pages do not work or the menu seems strange then please send me feeback (the feedback system tells me what browser and version you are using) and tell me basically what it looks like and I will fix/adjust it and email you back for an additonal test.

The new layout is not yet complete as all of the content links have not been finalised yet (this is Michelle's task) however the menu and layout are my job and I am getting close to finishing if the testing is ok.

Thanks and regards
David

Oh yeah,
Click here to get back to the STANDARD LAYOUT.

And I meant feedback not feeback however the link is correct.

Looks pretty good at this end,,have a question for you however, and that being ,have you changed server or connection somehow, reason I ask is that the site is taking longer and longer to load, Im on broadband and all other sites load in the " blink of an eye " yet here it seems to go as slow or slower than 56k dial up..

I have not changed anything much from our end. I am doing a bit more work in the database in relation to page stats and the like however I would not expect this to have made much difference.

When you refer to the download - does the page start to appear and take a while to download images etc or does it take a while to even start drawing the page?

It does also depend on the time of day I think. We host the site on an ISP that boost over 3500MB of Internet links however I find that the entire net slows down from about 3PM EST till about 6PM EST. I was working on the site this morning my time about luch time EST and it was flying - now at 4:40PM EST it is a bit slow as you mention.

The forum database is getting very large now and this is causing some delays however the rest of the site should be OK. Any additional feedback appreciated.

Dave, It all worked pretty well at my end but I have to agree with thepublican. Over the last few days it seems like it is grinding to a halt. Just no loading at all for quite some time. I'm on broadband and have noticed it a different times of the day

I have started asking the ISP about performance upgrades to the site - Pity each of these things cost me money. There is an upgrade that I can make to all the databases however it will take some time. I have just come back and the site is running like lightening again. Seems strange that it gets fast then slow in such a weird way.

I have also noticed that it seems slower when we are working in the backend and extracting orders or performing backend update functions that we run every two days or so.

Please keep giving me this sort of performance feedback. I am very interested in this as I want the site to run very well. This is a priority for me as advertisers etc will not pay to be on a slow site.

Thanks for the feedback and please continue to suplly me information directly to david@itbeyond.com.au.

Thanks David

Morning David,

I run an iMac using the dark side's Internet Explorer. The new layout loaded OK. I wandered 'round the site with a peek in here and there. All appeared to work OK.

Happy 4 wheeling

Hi David, The first time I opened it, the new tabs were not well defined and were covering 90% of the ‘log on bar’, only the “d” from the word password and “log off” were visible. The light blue tabs themselves were not clearly defined with only the sides marked out – i.e. one large blue panel with ý þ on either side of the words.
I then came back to enter my reply and when I went back in to check something it opened up correctly without any of the above problems.
The primary links all worked with the exception of “Advertising” which came up as 404 Not Found.

Hope this is of some value. Don’t hesitate to call me if this doesn’t make sense.
Cheers
Alex

Thanks Alex,

We are really wanting to ensure that the menu system works for everyone - Michelle is updating all the links at the moment.

David,
It all seems to work well for me. I would like the response to the tabs (menu) to be a little slower to appear, and also could the top of the page remain (tabs/menu) when scrolling down?
Thanks for great site,
Regards,
Anthony

All seems ok from here David, I too have noticed that the site is slow to load occasionally, I'm on cable so it should be pretty quick.
Need to fix the spelling on "Itineraries" instead of "itineries"

All seams fine at my end. Will make navigating around the site a lot easier with the tab butons. Keep up the good work as improvments can always be found. Bit like four wheel driving and accesories.

David: I am an ASP developer. Curently testing in IE 5.5 sp2 and NS 4.06. One the first load in IE your dynamic menu failed but loaded ok after a hard refresh. In NS it's NFG.

Don't you just hate that.

Cheers.

Thanks chopper,

Could please please feedback the some indication of the times that the performance is getting bad. I think a lot of it is to do with the size of the forum database as this is where I think a lot of you are spending most of your time. I will look at an upgrade to this database very soon.

When you think the system is slowing doen could you please test some non forum content pages and see how they perform and let me know.
