Know this feeling ??

I sit here waiting for the date
When I can get away
Lots to do before I go
I very sorry to say

The grass needs slashing
So whats new
I leave it behind
I'll leave it for you

The fence round the pool is falling down
I'll do it if I get around
The house is messy
Although its my strife
I'll leave it behind
Cause Thats for the wife

I dont expect that she'll kiss me
Cause only the dogs will miss me

Filled the tanks
And checked the grub
Emptied the wallet
While I still could
Camping gear is safely packed
I can't say that its neatly stacked
Fixed low beam, and fixed the spot
Cause after dark thats all I got
Tent and the matress are still quite sound
No CT for me, I sleep on the ground
All the lectronics
Are purring away
I hope they dont fail
when it comes to the day

I have a few spares and recovery gear
And keep the extinguisher nice and near
The oil is changed its running sweet
The spare on the back
Looks pretty neat
But the best bits so useful
Of course its my seat

Tyre gear is there, I hope not to need it
There's a book somewhere and I sure hope to read it
What have I forgot?
There's something I'm sure
I hope I remember, not after, before.

Err...what's that bro ? You're coming with me ?
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!

Hey Footloose I'm happy that you're almost ready
to hit the road running, keep that steering wheel steady
You've done all the planning, the packing the waiting
You've got books to read (I hope not xxx rating)
Where you're going I hope that the weather is clear
with roads not too rough and some icy cold beer
I hope that your plans all come to good endings
Fair weather, good travels is the message I'm sending

That's a good read and if you decide to make use of your time away, you never know what you might come up with. It's all there inside you.

So far away we are it seems
But so close on computer screens
Mr Footloose is prepared to go
Or so he tells us, that's all we know
Do you think, perhaps, he will shed a tear
When he drinks his last cold beer
Or does he have a fancy fridge
That will even keep drinks cold at Lightning Ridge?
If that is the case, let's not mention the brand
otherwise we're drawing lines in the sand
He preaches eternally on the forum
But always with a sense of decorum
Of course I say that with snigger
'Cause there's never no jokes about whose rig is bigger
He's the man, and I will tell my son about him
"He's got an 80series so don't you doubt him"
And if we meet somewhere, as in this small world we often do
My son will say, 'My dad told me about you"

Ahhhh Me mate Footy
Someone bless his Soul
'Cos he misses the Donut
And sees the Hole

Tho he's really Not
Such a bad Sort
And can write Poetry
With the aid of some Port

Do not despair old Fella
With your Bro in Tow
I'm sure you'll have Fun
As you well Know

And very Soon
I will meet Yo And Bro
Out in the Never Never
I don't really know

We'll talk on the Satphone
And arrange a good Place
And meet up out There
And come face to Face

We will sit 'round the Campfire
Chew the fat and the Bone
And think of those blokes(and shielas)
All stuck at home

LOLOL

Ah me old mate Willem
A sight for sorry eyes
When meetin in the scrub
When brushin off the flies
We'll hear the convoy coming
From miles away you bet
And look forward to the meeting
Out there somewhere
And yet
It's still some work away you know
Some work and yes some pain
My weather eye is casing round
For any bloody rain !

As we sit here at the keyboard, it's enough to break our backs
Writing words to farewell footy bound for outback desert tracks
Words that makes some sense and rhyme too is never very easy
It's enough to leave the bravest explorozzie feeling quesy

In the background there's the sound of moaning and of keening
what's it saying, wait a minute, let me try to catch the meaning
Now I hear it singing lowly to a melancholy tune.
Mr Footloose glad you're going, but be sure to come home soon.

Willem's bound to meet you and the campfire will be bright
As you tell yarns of your travels well into the night
Bware's sitting in Tweed Valley dreaming of the time to come
When his turn it is to travel with his wife and with his sons

Me, I'm waiting and I'm planning for the twenty eighth July
When the slip rail will be down and out the gate I fly
Until then I'm really hopeful that reports will filter back
From Footloose and from Willem somewhere out there "on the track"

Bware, I suspect that H Lawson would be proud that there's so many bush poets still around :)

There was movement at the website
For the word had got around
That Footy and some others started moovin
Oh good said all the others
Now without those silly f$rts
We can have some peace and quiet
T'will be soothin.

get this one Viv

Footie somewhat slightly different tack but true nonethless.

Well the car is all packed and we're up before light
And off down the road and this was our plight
Damn forgot the good shovel so we turn about
And drive uop our drive, "there it is" the kids shout
So we're happy its found and secured to the roof
And we're off down the road damn forgot the brush tooth
So back home we go, the kids now getting dirty
But the toothbrush now got and its only 5:30
So we drive down the road the same road the third time
And bugger! forgot the damn pegs and the line
So we drive back again and also get my pillow
Thats four things forgot the kids are now shrill-oh!

But this time we break that five km hoodoo
and soon the sunrise is a veritable woohoo
the trip that we started not two but three times
was remembered not for what we saw but for all of these drives

And they still tell the story and ask all the time
when are we leaving and alll voices chime
Dad have you packed every one and past bit
cause going back home's giving us all the willies!

just cant rhyme that last line

Bonz that was great and I loved the story
Backtracked three times for things not packed
But things like that go down in glory
And in our memory we keep them stacked
For those times when night gets late
And we're sitting back with campfires burning
We tell the tale to all our mates
Of things forgotten and three times turning

Making rhymes, having fun and a laugh...never competition...although that was an evil laugh from Bonz!!!!

Have a good trip Footloose. I'm interested in what you write about your trip cos we're heading some of the same way ourselves.

Hope you have clear skies after your last trip out there!!

All the best,

Viv

Thanks, Viv. Yes last time was a bit of a disaster but I still enjoyed it. And the clouds half covering the hills and the bit of clear sky with the stars etc was magical. Pity I couldnt actually get out of the car to enjoy it.
I will certainly post info and some pix when I get back. It might be a piece of cake, or ......
I am monitoring 4 weather sites this time around. :)))
