I bought a new Dorcy 3 D cell 1 LED torch from Dick Smith before leaving town on Thursday for a weekend camping. (all the other torches around the house had wandered - as usual)

This is it

Cost around $34 and it casts an excellent beam. We were really impressed. It was easily lighting up trees out to 100 feet and out performed my mates dolphin. They claim a 300 hour batter life as well.

All round great toy.

Only $29.99 at Target according to your own link. Suppose Target wasn't handy. Dolphins are harder to lose!

Yup $29.99 in greenbacks. That web site was a worry though. All about torches! Someone needs to get out a little more.

Dolphins are handier but the Dorcy makes a nastier club ...

That would be the luxeon LED

Most people baulk when u say LED torch these days...as there are so many crap ones...

especially on ebay..they advertise a 28 LED torch as if thats a good thing...(28 crap LED's is still a @#$$ torch)

Jaycar, sell a few luxeon LED torches, the flagship being a 5W $150 job.
they are still expensive at present.

FYI Jaycar sells a 1W luxeon star LED (the 'globe') by itself, without power supply for $16...the power supply to convert the right voltage to run the LED is $40...
A 5W luxeon LED by itself it $70.

So it sounds like a decent price for a good torch.

I was a little dubious when I bought it but thought it was worth a try and I was in a hurry to get away from Adelaide.

It is a luxeon LED and is very bright. We were all impressed.

Peter,

Thanks for nothing mate. Yet another toy I have to get. Was after a new torch, and based on your recommendation will set off to DS to grab one. Do you know if it is waterproof/resisatant?

Matt.

P.S. Based on your post re snatch blocks, I take it you were a dibby?

The pack said water resistant. Has O rings in all the bits that screw off.

I spent 21 years in pussers and 2 years with the crabs.

Served in Supply, Hobart, Melbourne (the carrier), Perth (last of the war canoes), Tobruk, Ipswich and Wollongong. Shore postings at Watson, Cerberus, Defence, DIO, ADFWC, NORCOM and Army Staff College.

In the RAAF I was posted to Tactical Fighter Group and Air Lift Groups.

Stanley (Tool folk) put out a magic LED torch..It has three rariating alum tubes to hold AA batts.I loaded all three of them on mine when I bought it Christmas before last..Still going on same batts..(1 1/2 years)You can load only one tube with AAs or two tubes or all three...(No doubt it is a circuit in parallel)..Our G/Sheppard often cons me into going for a 2km walk around our 54acres 8 or 9 at nite..The torch has four settings..I only use setting two which is plenty to spot snakes etc..I must check if it is still a current product as I should put one in each rig.. (Duracell batts leave the others for dead in my experience..The AAs I got out here in the stix (Emerald Qld) have a 2012 use by date on them

I have one of those in my work crummydore. It has been there for 12 months and is still on the first batteries. The new Dorcy leaves it for dead.
