Howdy all
I was looking to go to lakes entrance on friday via mitta mitta and omeo on friday and wondering if the road is open or do they close it or put resrictions on it.
I tried looking at the vicroads website but found it absoulutly useless, unless tavelling on a freeway in melbourne, which is one place I want to steer well away from :(
Thanks, Graeme.

Graeme, I think the Omeo Highway is open all year but can be difficult even in a 4wd .
Your best bet is to ring Mitta Police on 02 60723564.

graeme,
the road varies from open to closed depending on the conditions. it is open most of the time but can get very rough.
vicroads has a road condition number you can call. it covers all of victoria and is perfect for alpine drives. 131170.
if the alpine hwy over hotham is open i suggest you use it. it is all bitumen and easier than the omeo hwy. it is also quicker because the dirt section of the omeo are very slow going this time of year.

There is a bit of snow on Hotham but not enough to cause problems for traffic. Have a look at the ski cam online. You may be requested to carry chains! And it's a nice drive anyway.

It is a very scenic drive... Must do it myself one day, last time I did drive it was 30 years ago...

Thanks so far fellas,
I will ring vicroads and find out I guess.
I have been across that way on a roadbike so it's not too rough.
I didn't want to hire chains so I wasn't going to go over hotham.
There will be two of us and we'll be in 4wds.
Graeme
