Big Al.
Forum suggests that 3" exhaust plus tuning will improve economy on new
TDi 4.2 patrol, would same mod's benefit the 79 1HD-FTE toyota?
Patrol vs Landcruiser price difference around $7000 is it worth it ?
any advice welcome.

That price difference dose not sound correct . That could mean The Bugger might be losin ground to the Mighty Patrol..

a 3 inch exhaust will bring power on quicker and lower in rev range, due to turbo spinning up easier with less backpressure....also less heat is retained around turbo and motor...a good investment, best place to start looking is
Beaudesert exhaust qld, who do mandrel systems delivered to you.
Doing this to my new addition next week...getting the 3.5 inch dump pipe aswell as part of the system...(for a hdft)
From memory, it is worth 7 or 8 kw by itself.....but will enhance any other mod you do as in black box stuff.
Oh did i mention better economy :)))))))) and a real sexy note....thats got to be better than 2 fitches in line

What's your new addition, Andrew? Sounds like a 79 series turbo?
Recently bought the 79 series turbo I've been driving for work over the past 3.5 yrs. Just had a new cutch, and new king-pins prior to purchase. Very happy with $23K price!!! and only 138K clicks.
Been thinking of one of BE's systems for the ute, the one on our 80 works okay.
Cheeerio...

Gday
Not quite a hdfte79....i have updated to a 1995 hdft auto vx Sahara :) which was what i have always wanted...airbag, ABS and climate control....oh did i mention good economy....it uses 10l/100 kms less than the turbo 4.5.
Rock Crawler...do u have gas on a supercharged 4.5??? Gas is so fiddly....thats why i have never used it....tune changes like it used to with the old SU's on a Datto.
I would say with my xray vision, that you have bent the rotors....keep an eye out on ebay...u will find a preloved one chweaper than to fix yours....and make sure you incorperate a pop off valve in the inlet before you try again...

i have a 3" exhust on my Patrol 4.2 2004 6 wheeler the power & smoother running is a lot better & had i left it Std i would have sold the truck as std it was a slug to my old patrol 6wheeler 4.2 1994 with after market turbo
(just remeber the cost of rebuilding the toys front end & transfer case if you work it hard) but the toys motor is a lot better on fuel than the nissan will ever be

Thanks Vincent
We have had 14 years trouble free with our gq swb. now ready to replace with a new cab chassis and slide on camper (nissan or Toyota ) No heav duty 4WD ing or towing planed.
With cost of fuel now, economy is big consideration.

You need to work on your Toyo dealer a bit. We got the difference (with extras) down to < $1,000 earlier this year.

I'm in
Adelaide. We had been to a few dealers and finally found one who was ready to negotiate. We managed to find a dealer (Main North Road) who had one in their yard that they wanted to move. We didn't care and it was only 3 months from manufacture date. The fact it was in the yard took off $3,000. It took a while (hours) but we got the price down and included 6 split rims with tyres on top (the wife is a mean negotiator! I managed to get a bit more off the price after). It isn't a bad ploy to have two bits at the cherry. They always hang onto a bit extra if they can. We then went to Nissan and by the time you allowed for snorkels (the patrol does not have one std) and the split rims etc they were ~ $1,000 apart. I guess the ToYo dealer wanted a sale and the Nissan dealer didn't. I didn't really care which one we got, Nissan or Toyo, but liked the Toyo a bit better when we drove it.
