Willem
In a recent post, with reference to probable or impending access rules, to areas adjacent to the CSR, statements have made attributing the 'new' rules to the actions by a group of people from a particular state.
This is the second time I have read these accusations on this
forum and it appears that the wording was published in other publication/s.
From what I have read, it is only hearsay and that there is no substantiated evidence that the event ever occurred.
In my opinion I think that everyone using this
forum should guard against perpetrating something which may be an urban myth.
It is easy to apportion blame to a singular person, a group or groups of people to justify one's indignation. But without real evidence, is it right?

Totally agree Willem, I get right annoyed at the stupid emails that I get that perpetuate urban myth, The last one re Digital hearing aids & microwave ovens though I found very amusing, would cause havoc among those of us susceptible to that sort of garbage... This is a similar case.
It's a fine line to tread, one has to stick to the facts, one can't spread false or missleading
information in a public
forum as it leaves the spreader (not the
forum owner) wide open to litigation. This also includes claims by advertisers in regard to their products.
There have been numerous actions in the courts because someone followed someones instructions on a
forum such as this and those instructions caused harm or injury.
It's Ok if you have parliamentary priveliges or if what you say can be seen to be in obvious jest, but perpetuating Urban Myth is risky. Some good advice is to not forward on emails that contain stories of dubious origin

Mr Fawlty, can you quote me a FACTUAL case (in Australia) where someone has taken court action re
"There have been numerous actions in the courts because someone followed someones instructions on a

Yes I can, Can't get into the library till Monday then I will. But untill then think about the cases you have heard of in the media where people have recieved instructions on bomb making etc via various forums, also consider the closure of the MSN Chat rooms in Australia for various reasons including people giving & taking advice on drug usage among other things...

ok, I think I can see where you are coming from....In Australia the legal system we have adopted does not protect you from your own stupidity.
If I told you that to remove a wart from your finger you should put a drop of nitric acid on it, & you did & as a consequence you suffered a bad chemical burn because of my advice then it would be me would be consequently liable. So don't do it! It does not matter how or what media I use to give you the advice, if you are stupid enough to take it & I give you false or missleading
information then I am legally liable. Even if you are blind drunk, don't read the
sign & dive in to the shallow end of
the pool then as you may recall it was the owner of
the pool who was ultimatley held responsible.
Now if in this
forum I told someone how to bleed their brakes with a flawed process that subsequentially caused damage, who would be responsible? Me or the person who followed the flawed instructions?
Spreading urban myth is treated identically, struth you only have to look at a packet of breakfast cereal to see that you have to have instructions for everything these days. Ok yes serious cases only would go before the courts but still the risk is there.

Hi Mr Fawlty - The original post is about spreading of urban myths - while I agree with everything you say - has there actually been court action as a result of stupid advice on a
forum such as this - or are you perpetuating an urban myth?
