Evening All,

Based on some advice from this forum, I am going to replace the gearbox/transfer case oil in the 80 series with Castrol VMX M. Having a hard time tracking some down in Canberra and I can only find VMX 80. Supercheap, et al don't stock it.

Any help?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Don't know if you have it there, but in SA it is available from "Sprint Auto Parts"

Thanks Rusty. Don't think they are in the ACT though. Might try a few of the smaller auto parts places.

Thanks Howard, I should have thought to ask you in the first place. What do you run in yours?

Funny you should post this today. I changed the g/box oil in our 80 series last Saturday because the changing was a bit notchy/baulky. I also got the advice from the forum. Good news, it works!! The changing is now normal. Go for it. Let us know what you think afterwards.

Good news Ian. Nothing wrong with the box, just due for a change and thought I would go with the oil most 80 series owners recommend. May notice a difference though, particularly with the -4 to -6 mornings of late.

Matt
believe it or not with 400,00 km on the clock I still run 85/140 penrite gear oil in the diff and g/ box and transfer. Now I have the locker I dont need LSD oils in the rear anymore.
Must admit changes need to be slow on winter mornings in canberra however I prefer to allow for worst case scenarios ie long days in hot conditions.
