I have 2 mates with 3.0's GU's.

One was running Q78's which are 36's Swampers... He is happy with that. No Dtronic on his, but does a lot of serious offroading. He now has a set of Trxus 285/75/16 going on on Thursday (www.offroader.com.au is his business).

The other put new 35x12.5x15 MTR's on the other day, but he has Dtronic on his GU... He also runs 35x10.5x15 Centipedes happily.

Both seem happy. Both are Manuals too.

I run 33's on my GQ up from 31's and HATE the difference. The Wife noticed it too, lacks pickup, but highway crusing on 130kph is PERFECT thats where the power kicks in :( ...
Mine is an Auto.

Tim, any size over 32" (265/75x16) on a 3 litre engine is going to hurt on-road performance. Some get away with the next size up, (285/75x16) but it does have an impact on acceleration and maintaning speed on hills. You find your foot burying into the floor to hold your speed. Off-road Low range work is masked to a degree. You will find that you can't quite make that hill in 3rd low but 2nd low is too slow. This is a common downfall of all Patrols - barely adequate low-range gearing. Stick with a 32" tyre and you will be much happier in general 4x4ing. The odd time you would want for greater ground clearance with a bigger tyre, has to be balanced against the other down-sides as I stated.
