Hi folks,

Can anyone tell me if beach camping is still permitted along the shoreline of Waroora Station (located just south of Coral Bay in WA). We know there were some mutterings by CALM about taking over control of the shoreline and not allowing camping on the beaches. Would appreciate advice by anyone who knows the current status.

Regards.

Its been 18months since we last camped there, beautiful spot.

I cant see CALM actively policing such a remote spot too often (long as they dont start closing tracks)

Hadnt heard anything but give Exmouth tourist centre a call.

What about ringing the station itself? As they are the ones who you pay to camp there. Belongs to the McCleod family now if I remember right

Suburbamiddy,

You are quite right about the CALM mutterings however it hasn't happened yet. Coastal camping at Waroora and the 4 other stations along the coast between Coral Bay and Exmouth are all under threat. Basically CALM wants control of this entire coastal strip and has tried to excise a 2km wide coastal strip from all the leases. Apparently the govt's approach is give up the 2km strip or your lease won't be renewed in 2015. Naturally the station owners are holding out but truthfully I don't like their chances. This fight has been going on for more than a few years now but for the time being the status quo remains regarding access and camping on the stations. Make the most of it while you can. CALM won't stop the camping but it'll be far more restricted :-((((.
