Hi.

All these additives for oil and fuel & what ever else, are they any good??

The shops are full of the stuff now.!! My opinion is if the engine was built right in the first place (tolerances etc) then you don't need this extra product to keep it right.? It may slow the death of an old donk to a certain degree but it wont repair it. With the quality of oils & filters these days i don"t think they are worth it.

More a sales thing I think, But thats just me.

Cheers Axle.

Do they work? buggered if I know but I've tried using them over the past 12 months or so. I tried one from Chemtec? and am currently trying the Flashlube diesel conditioner. I can only comment on the diesel aditives! Well on a 6000km trip to SA I averaged around 13.5lt/100km fully loaded with 4 kids in the back (4.2lt TD). But I recon I would have got around that economy any way with or without the conditioner! But that is not the reason I use it. I'm no expert but, I'm lead to believe that diesel fuel isn't what it used to be ie less sulphur etc in our current fuels and the conditioners I use are (if you believe the salesman) designed to compensate for this and keep the engine in good working order. That is by no way a compensation for good mechanical maintenance! My mechanic recons be wary of them! some are not all they should be and thats why I have only tried those two brands. In the end I have had no problem in using them and my truck runs bueatfully but all this is probally due to good maintenance rather than the additives. Not only that but you have to pay for them too. Yep, for now I have another 3lt of Flashlube to use before I give it more consideration - thats 3000lt of diesel which I'll make every effort to use on my Cape York trip starting tomorrow.
Cheers

Some oil additives are good for shutting up a noisy/smokey engine long enough to sell/trade it in. Not good for much else.
