G'day
Thanks to all for help on my previous questions.
A couple more to help with my new patrol 3l diesel selections.
I have never driven a vehicle with cruise control, but a work mate said once you've had it you'll always want it. Mostly city driving. Any thoughts.
Any comment on the engine shut off delay devices for turbos. I tend to think it will be a pain in the backside, if I just motor in gently to my destination let the vehicle idle briefly all should be ok. Whaddayareckon?
No idea what these cost.
cheers
Rod

Rod, Cruise control is greatest thing since mini skirts, or sliced bread. Use it in city at your peril. Avoid using when tired. For loong distance they're more economical, and less tiring.
Turbo timers are good, at $180-200, they are a lot cheaper than a new turbo. Your turbo will be a pain alright, right in the wallet. But you've got right idea, steady motoring for a bit before stopping, you can get away without one. hooroo....

G'day again Rod, looked up couple of t/timers, ARB and Bogaard, both made by Bogaard I think. Easy to fit, as long as you're a contortionist(in an 80 series, anyway) They have timer frrom half min. up to 5 mins, 6 positions, plus kill switch for immediate stops. ARB or TJM Hooroo...

Cruise control is THE STUFF.... But the genuine Nissan one is around ~$500 too much! it can be had for $200-300... Not the 900 one bloke I know was told!
I usually leave
mine idling while I unpack the family, usually 5-10 mins, the same as a Turbo Timer...
Some insurance companies WONT allow Turbo Timers, so ask first before you invest.
Get an Immobiliser on your new car... Worth the $$ over alarms.

Mmm, can't get the nissan one as an option on my selection, but they quoted me $850 for after market. Will have to
check out other suppliers, I'm in
Adelaide if you know anyone here. Will
check out the insurance point, thanks for that.
Immobiliser is standard I believe?

Truckster
I also meant to ask about the time you stated for a timer, 5-10 mins, seems more than required, though I don't really know?

cruise control..... as has been said already a great idea on long trips, or even freeways in light traffic.
turbo timers are very good also. turn the key off and start unpacking, the motor stops when ready.cheaper than turbo's and you don't have to remember to clock watch.

it is the Autron One
Fly by wire, no cables or things.... around $700 from Nissan.

Thanks Truckster
Thats probably the one they said was $850, but I'm sure they'll show how great they are and give it to me for $700. :-)
Thanks for the link
Oh and speaking of links, I was a little confused about the link in your first message, after I clicked on it I managed to bring up another
forum that I had previously found, not the yahoo site.
Have joined and it seems I wait for email, is that the way it works?
cheers

like Truckster says, Nissan now supply the Autron unit. I don't want to blow any whistles but it was I think primarily becuase of an issue I had some time back that they now use this supplier. Nissan use to use a Command system which is not suited to drive by vehicles as the GU 3.0L is. The Command system is dangerous and suffers extreme variances, up to 10kmp/h in normal driving.
The Autron by a mob called Auscruise, is vehicle specific and not a 'one fits all' set up. Auscruise is mated to your vehicles electronics and works very
well. I have had both and know.
As the result of a bleep fight(that I won) with my dealer over the command system they originally fitted from new, Nissan no longer supply them, thats gotta say something. Just make sure you get the auscruise Autron unit. Beautiful.
Through this
forum I'm aware of others who have had the command system and liked it but not on drive by wire vehicles. That is where the difference is.
