Has anybody been through this exercise. My son's TD42 is nearing 600,000klms (yes, that much!) and not surprisingly is getting a bit tired, though still running OK. The rest of the vehicle is still good mechanically.
He's considering stripping it down and doing a recondition/rebuild sometime soon. I've done a few rebuilds on older petrol engines over the years, but have no idea about the costs involved in doing a Japanese diesel. Has anyone got any
feedback on costs of parts etc in rebuilding a TD42? Obviously a lot depends on what parts need replacing, but any
feedback at all would be appreciated. (My son and I are quite capable of doing the actual disassembly/reassembly ourselves, but will obviously need to send any bits off to have re-machining etc done.)
Thanks in advance for any
feedback,
Cheers

Hunt around on the internet (not sure where you are?) and you should be able to find a rebuild kit-pistons, rings, liners, bearings etc. Then you only need to get the crankshaft, camshaft, head etc ground if necessary.

Hi flash.
Your son has had a good run!!, But i would think now is the time to look at things very carefuly, to rebuild that motor from top to bottom witch will have to be done, ( TO DO A GOOD JOB) I think you should look at vechicle value against these costs, AS not a nissan owner I can't even give you any idea, on rebuild costs but as said be carefull.
Axle.

Speak to Nick (woop) on either the Patrol
forum, or on outer limits.
Hes been through it and doing it properly doing most himself with Genuine parts was around $8000-9000
