G'day Mob,

can anyone inform me as to whether there is any truth in the suggestion that some of the 1HZ 100series are smokey from day one because the timing of the engine is adjusted for a different atmospheric pressure to normal altitude in Australia?

G'day Ando

I probably can't really answer your question correctly, but I think it is more likely that the engine is tuned for emissions. I gather that in Japan there is more emphasis on NOx (oxides of nitrogen) rather than particulates (black smoke). There is a bit of a balancing act to be performed...one compromises the other. Timing and pump settings may both be involved to achieve their desired outcome.

I know that one of our customers has 2 x 1HZ engines, and he tells me that one has always been cleaner running than the other, so there may be something in what you say.

Regards
Brid
