Hello,

I received this with my FJ 40 and was wondering what it is and what it can be used for.

Here are the picture links.

Hello mickgibbo,
Easy one to answer this one,
You've got a Power Take Off or PTO from a genuine Toyota PTO winch.
The rods in the background are the lever and linkage for engaging the PTO box pictured. It'll run forward/neutral/reverse.
It bolts onto the transfer case on the left hand side in place of the alloy plate.
You're missing the drive shaft and winch to make a complete PTO winch setup.

In my opinion, the pick of the winches are PTO's. I've owned 2 or 3 of the genuine Toyota's.

Geoff.

Well thats was way faster than I expected, I doubt that I will ever use it, what would one be worth?

I will probably just put it on ebay. What do you think, would there be any interest for it?

Cheers for the quick response

Mike

Forgot to mention, the winches are used with the transfer case lever in neutral while the PTO box in the picture is engaged.
The gearbox and hand throttle are used to control winch line speed.

Mike,
No idea.
I seem to remember I paid about $800 for the complete winch assembly for my FJ40 when I bought it secondhand. Mind you that was about 20 years ago.
The HJ45 in my rig picture had one fitted when I bought it. It was an ex Electricity Commission of NSW.
They'll only fit the older style transfer case up to about 45, 60 Series, can't remember exactly when Toyota changed the transfer case.

Ebay and whatever you can get would be the go,

Geoff.

Had one on the old Yota we had with the forward shaft. Think about the PTO winch though, it won't work like the electric one will with the truck on it's side to pull itself upright. I was just behing Geoff in the recognition. The PJs won't win a good sale on eBay.

Mick,
They come up occassionally on Ebay and do seem to sell.
Sometimes complete winches, sometimes just the winch and other times just the PTO like you've got.
I'd give it a go there and put on a starting price of say $150 or whatever you think is fair.
See what happens.
