Struth!!!!
Got a price today from a popular WA 4WD wrecker for a second hand GU 16 x8 alloy rim ..........
$660 !!!!!
I'm not a skinflint by any stretch but this seems way over the top. If I approach Nissan spare parts the price ain't gonna be much more!!
Cheers

I think there is a set on ebay at the moment, worth a look. Even the steel GU rims fetch a hefty pricetag, but if you keep an eye out and are not in a hurry you can do OK
Cheers andrew

Hi Red Gibber,
FWIW have you tried "Mr Mags"??
From memory he is located somewhere near Galleria Shopping Centre.
I heard about him some time ago from a less
well known wrecker in WA as I was chasing an alloy 16 for my Range Rover Vogue. He was able to get me a matching one for the Cheviot rims fitted.
He had a large storage area filled with alloys of all types and may
well be worth a try.
Good Luck

I know of one reputable 4wd wrecker that rings up Toyota/Nissan etc, get's the new price and just takes 10% of the price for hard to get items. I got it straight from the horses mouth while I was doing some work there for them.

That's a good way to end up with a stockpile of unsold parts. For an extra 10%, I'd take the new part over one from a wrecked vehicle.

They can get away with it for the hard to get ones, there's always some scrooge or insurance company that won't to save 10%. 10% off a $1000 part is still $100, of a $6000 repair bill for a damaged GU for example, that might be $600 savings. Insurance company would deffinatally go that one.

Bob Jane Tmart are having a SALE on alloy rims at the moment. I recon you could get 5 newies for not much more than 1 genuine one.

I recently bought 5 x 16 x 8 GU rims off ebay for $500. They pop up once a week or so and that seems to be the standard knock down price. Going around the wreckers here in Vic was a standard reply of "if we can get one, $150 a rim". Some private sellers were asking $300 a rim

I have just changed all my alloy wheels for steel ones. Did this after the wheel came off on the freeway heading out of
Melbourne (read earlier post). From my research it is the alloys that are susceptible to dropping off like this. Replacement steels - $100 each in matching silver. Now I feel much safer. The alloys will go back on when I sell the car. New price of the alloy wheel is over $850 and a steel one over $400. You can get second hand steels for around $150 - or try Ebay as suggested.

For that sort of money, I'd be asking them for a copy of the x-ray showing that there was no damage to it after the accident.
