Hi all nissan gurus
My mate is trying to rebuild a 1981 nissan patrol MQ motor (dropped rod) with what we think is a P40 motor. We have pulled the motor out and the block has g60 stamped on it.Compliance plates read P40 yet all manuals state the motor as having single overhead cam (not so) only single rocker support assembly. We are confused as to
where to start to search for parts and are the g60-p40 the same petrol motor.I know p40s are as rare as! but some one must have been down this track before. Please help as I think we will drink ourselfs into a early grave trying to figure this out.
I thank my self that I have a GQ td 42 and can sleep easy knowing I have another 250 k left on the clock. BTW does any body know how to fix a jammed odometer on a 92 GQ?
Perplexed

hello,
As far as I know the p40 is the engine designation ie 4ltr. The p40 is an Austin based mtr. This motor was in all the early 70's G60 model to the MQ,Mk patrols of the 80,s.
The MQ1980-1984 ,MK 1984 -1987 also had the L28 2.8 ltr 6cyl and SD 33 Diesels.
As far as I know only the LWB wagon and utes had the P40 mtr as an option and it wasnt very common in application. I think it was because the motoring scribes of the day said the 2.8 was underdone in a heavier vehicle and the P40 was torquier.
But it drank fuel like a sailor on shore leave.
Hope this helps.
Alan.

Re yourjammed odometer
try flicking the shaft that resets the trip distance. On ours it would jam if not pushed straight and it must disconect the systen some were, but a few taps would make it work
