Hi all,
Well, we arrived back from our week at Fraser this arvo. What a magic place! We had an amazing week exploring the island from top to bottom and inside out. The tracks were all good - the recent rain has helped I think. There weren't many crew on the island also, which was great! I imagine it could get pretty hectic at times!
The petrol was around $1.85. Cartons were $45 (luckily we took enough of our own). Found someone selling live worms for $1 - they are great bait! Caught good sized whiting, bream and dart on my $50 k-mart special and had a ball doing it!
We had dinner at the
Eurong Beach Resort one night, and unfortunately can't recommend the food - though the service was good. The
bakery pies are great!
We had awesome accomodation at the Fraser Island Beach Houses, which are in a beautiful location. (It would've been nice to have a more hospitable host though - he didn't smile or make us feel welcome at all when we checked in - something that should be manditory at 4.5 star digs! Maybe he was having a bad week, but still ... )
The inland driving was great and the lakes are stunning! Kingfisher is luxurious and a few beers around
the pool was great! There really are some beautiful (and quiet) spots on the west coast!
We will be back, but we're keen to
camp next time as we picked-out some great spots - on the eastern beach,
Waddy Point, at
central station and also on the west coast!
After we got off the barge today, we drove back to
Rainbow via
the beach - nice drive - different from Fraser again! Had lunch and then a surf in
Rainbow to top off an incredible week!!!
Thanks to all those who offered me advice and info in my other thread before we went. The Bravo did a great job! Had the tyre pressure at around 28psi and never had to use my new tow hook.
Cheers and chilly Fraser beers,
Diz

Glad you had a great time!
Mark is having withdrawel symptoms and wants to get back to Fraser asap....
(he'll definately go for the fishing part now he has a surf rod)
We didn't get to explore as much as we wanted to when we were there is January. Will go again soon but not in summer, and maybe this time I could drive!
Cheers
Jo

Hi Cherokee, don't know how much time you've got off, but you might wanna check out Curtis Island off
Gladstone while you're 'in the area'. A truly magical place little known, other than by the locals in
Gladstone.

Hi junior,
Can you take a 4x4 over to Curtis? It doesn't look like it from the NPWS/EPA website?!
Otherwise, what does a boat ride over cost, and can you
camp on the island?
Cheers,
Diz

Yes, looks like you can take a vehicle to Curits - expensive though ~$95 plus $24 for each passenger other than driver!
Couldn't find much info on the northern end of the island and
camping though?

The cost of the barge over is quite good, considering they don't get anywhere near the volume of the Fraser Island barges at Inskip- also a longer trip!
Well worth the money in my opinion!
$4 a night
camping permit for the National
Park portion of the Island- most of the rest is the land of Monte Christo cattle station- just ask permission to drive, stay on their land?
4wding is good and beaches all to yourselves! While there, you'll feel more like an adventurer than a tourist.
Check out this
forum discussion for more info on the place!!!
