This is what is called the insurance company "boiling Frog" strategy. they give a cheap price inthe first year and jack it up every year after hoping you will not notice.
Alliance tried it on me.
Either call up as a new customer if you want to stay with them and get a quote. Its often much cheaper than you are being billed. Or go elsewhere.
I have found AAMI the best at the moment, and they have not increased year on year.

Hi
NRMA were doing that to me and 5 years ago I checked with AAMI and found that i could get better cover for $450 cheaper. Needles to say what I did then. The only thing I was concerned about was the cover and service, silly me. I found AAMI to be far better than the other company and you ALLWAYS talk to a person no matter what time of day or night you ring. My wife had a minor prang on Jan 20th that I thought would put us off the road over Xmas, not on your life, AAMI had the car back to us in 3 days flat. Exellent service. They give coverage any where in Australia as long as you are:
1. Not Drunk.
2. Where you are permitted to be on or off road.
3. Not in competition.
4. Driven by a licenced driver.

They have never increased my premium without notification of such, in fact they have never incresed it exept when i purchased my new car, and then only by a few dollars ($38)

Check around mate.

On Patrol.

either ring around or hit the online estimates to get an idea. Your quote seems highish having just been through the process for a new Prado, but there's various circumstances (age, where you live) that go into whatever number they calculate. I chose a slightly lower value (56K) but a couple of online quotes were around $600. I haven't swapped mine over (haven't picked up the car yet) but I decided to stick with our current mob as multiple policies give me enough of a discount to bring it down to close to the other quotes. Interestingly, it's cheaper than the Subaru Outback I'm trading, and a lot less than my 10 year old HSV Clubsport! back to your original question though, yes I've experienced where they drop the value of the car and put up the premium (on the Clubby) but after ringing around, I decided I was on a good thing anyway!

a mates missus suffered from that with their surf, she called them, told them that they will pay same as last yr for same value or they would cancel their house, and all other insurance with them - and as much as Im shocked to say it, they agreed!

But call around. GIO a few yrs back wanted $5000 to insure my bike for $15,000 thats with 70% no claim bonus.. no accidents, no fines...

I'm must be on the lucky side this year, as both my premiums dropped, the hilux down from $786 to $527 value dropt by 2k, thats ok was insured for more than it was worth anyway still insured for 15k, and the commodore dropped from $667 to $585 and value dropped by 1400 to 22k still happy with that as it to would only be worth approx $17k now, Ive stayed with NRMA ,Gio was nearly double on the hilux and wouldnt touch the commodore cause it was lowered, mind you by holden with genuine springs same shocks etc, anyway have been happy with NRMA services have every thing with them house etc, Just a quick note house and contents was $679 combined, house for $220k contents for $90k just to give you an idea. You MUST ring around! I'm with SWANN and they are great, $400 for a 99 Prado worth $25k. You should expect to pay around $600 unless you have unusual circumstances. Bloody sharks!

I found that if you call up each year and start the policy as a 'new customer' you would get their best price.
They tried jacking it up on me so I jacked up!

I phoned in and got a quote over the phone and after they told me the price, I asked why my renewal was $300 more? You could almost hear him scrabbling like a Labrador on wet lino, trying to come up with a plausible answer.

They are all after as much of your money as you are willing to give, so in order to get even you have to play the game too.
