I made one last night. Piece of cake. In fact, I got hold of two bottles, so I rang up a mate and he came over and made one for himself as well. Taking the tap out required a bit of muscle with a "stilson" and a bar. Next job was filling it up with water and then cutting off the tap guard/handle thingo with the 9" grinder. I screwed the tap back in a bit then laid the bottle on it's side to cut the top off. I found this more easy to keep the cutting disc in a nice neat straight line.Note.. this was while the water was still in it. No way would I attempt this with the water tipped out. Next was the door cum fire regulator flap. I cut mine about 5" x 4" just below the middle weld but only cut 3 of the 4 cuts. I then welded on a hinge and cut the 4th cut. Now the door sits exactly as it should. I drilled four 1/2" holes just above the middle weld to slide a couple of rods in to sit a billy on. We had a few drinks sitting around this new toy and we cranked both of them up.
This morning there was still some coals in the bottom so I made some fruit damper and cooked it in the camp oven that wedged itself halfway in the bottle. It works that well that we reckon you could cook breakfast and boil a billy for less than a hat full of kindling. What do you think about that? Rus.

Hi guys. Yes Gramps I know you helped me before with posting pics but it's all too hard for me(ok, I've forgotten) but do a search for "Barry Breaden" or go post search 33634 and what you see there is now what I've got. Rus.

Hey Rus,

Easier than images. Just highlight the web link in the browser address bar at the top. Hit Ctrl-C.

Put it where you want the words "Site Link" to appear in your post. Hit Ctrl-V

Done.

A mate of mine has one but made a little different, although it works fine. The best part is you don't need a lot of heat to cook your meal and it all stores as one when packed away.

Great, just bluudy great!!!

One more thing Bazz [ he who is good with steel stuff ] is going to make for both of us so that I can try and find room for it, as well as try and carry it around without making a mess! te he

The Breaden stove. What a great idea! I think this one will catch on very quickly.

Saw a similar one to this. The difference was there was no fire door and the top of the guard at the top of the cylinder was welded to the bottom of the cylinder. This provided a foot on the bottom and lifted the cylinder about 120mm. The foot gave more insulation to protect the grass underneath. More air holes were drilled in the bottom as well.

Shhhhh!

I bet that was going to be version 2, after every one copied version 1.

Was expecting a post in about a month "look what I have done to improve it".

You have let the cat out of the bag now.

That is absolutely brilliant!!! One of the great things I love about this site- enginuity (spelling???) and creativity

Easy and a great use for the old cylinders.

The benefits of participating in groups is that you can thieve others ideas. If participants don't wish to share them they patent them first.

This has given me a great idea, I could make a chimenea out of a 45kg cylinder for home, just gas out a hole big enough in the top for a flue pipe

Possibly fit a rack etc and adjustable vents - home made webber - they have a hide charging a few hundred bucks for the std webber, probably more steel of better quality in the gas bottle.......mmmm, going to get a meg welder soon, might have a go at one myself...

Cheers andrew
