Have re-jigged navigation set up using oziexplorer, have now installed 8" seform VGA Touch screen to run off laptop.
Before installing laptop is it better to have it vertical or have it laying flat? I have heard that due to vibrations, vertical is better.
I know that there a lot of well informed people out there, and would like comments as to which is the better way for the well being of the laptop due to vibration and the like.
Cheers, EricM WA.

I've always mounted laptops flat and I use velcro to attach it, as it cushions the laptop from the vibrations.

Hi,

Build the laptop in the position it will be placed mostly, when formatting the drive it should be placed either vertically or horizontally, this aligns the heads for that position and helps to alleviate problems down the track. At least this is what I was taught at school.....

Servers and Raid arrays often mount discs on there side, upside down...etc. Laptop drives are tougher again and will have no problems whichever way you mount it. Seagate advise on there site the drives can be mounted in any orientation.

My Car PC has been reloacted around my car several times now, from horizontal to vertical and back again without a problem - ensure you can keep the unit cool though, have a look at laptop coolers on good old Ebay for more extreme conditions.

after destroying nearly every component in my laptop years ago when i stored it vertical, i now place it flat and don't have any probs.
when it was vertical, the pins and screws holding the motherboard rubbed thru the layers and shorted the board.
also had to replace screen, hard & floppy discs.
