Does anyone think there is any benefit in asking David to start up a register on this site where members can register their ability to have other members stay with them if they are in transit.

What I mean is that some of us probably have a big enough block of land, or maybe acreage somewhere, and might have the ability to accommodate a fellow member or two who is travelling from their home to wherever.

They could maybe specify that they have room for example 2 campers, have no power available, have hot shower facilities or prefer non smokers etc etc.

This would possible have the effect of more members getting to know each other, members saving a few bob from time to time when transitting to their real destination and generally building friendships.

Maybe if it could be done, members can then use it in their planning and then MM and ask if it is convenient on such a such date, and if not for whatever reason, the person being asked can just decline the request.

I dont know if it would work or not, as not everyone is going to get on with everybody, or some people might find it an inconvenience if asked to many times because they happen to live in a desirable destination, but it is just an idea.

Guess its over to you guys/gals now to float the idea around and discuss it.

Cruiser,
Sounds feasible to me. Just think, one could go all the way around Oz and not have to pay for accommodation or parks. (Just a few beers or 12).There are enough members in varying places to make this possible.
Cheers,

The beers required at some places would make it cheaper to stay at the hilton hahaha.

I recon if there was a register, Willem would probably get the most requests.

I have had quite a few forumites either call or stay but I think i'd prefer to "know" the person first before inviting them to stay at out place.

I think it's a great idea - also if you are on the road and would like a break you could house share / sit.

Heaps of people take off on 6 or 12 months trips and need someone to house sit - and others on the same trip would love to house sit and break the trip. What about a register?

Also a once a year BBQ - BYO everything where Explore Oz members could meet each other in the flesh. Might need one in each state!

We had a BBQ early this year for CBL owners and had a great time - everyone wants to repeat it - its a gathering of like minded people - think E O should do the same.
