Just wondering if this unit is any good for travelling. Not going to hook it to a laptop, just use as a navigation aid. Got lost in
Melbourne at the weekend and then saw Garmin Etrex Legend for $280. Wondered if it was worth the money?
I know NOTHING about GPS units...

I tried geocaching in
Melbourne with my little Garmin (lesser model than yours) and most of the time I had a problem getting a signal because of the tall buildings blocking the view of the sky (called canyoning). I spent a lot of time at risk standing in the middle of
crossroads staring hopefully at the screen while watching for oncoming trams.
If your problem is navigating within a city I would think you would be better off with one of the units specifically made for vehicle navigation - the ones which speak to you so that you can concentrate on the road not a little GPS screen.
No GPS however is going to help you with the infamous
Melbourne 'hook turns', which, through no fault of
mine I must say, nearly enabled my wife to make an early collection of my life insurance.

Ive had one for a year, great little unit! Have used on foot as
well as in the car. No problems encounted to date. Great value for money.
