G'day,

Anyone had any issues with Hilux CV boots leaking grease. I popped me head underneath today and noticed that both my outer CV's leacking at the clamp on the shaft and my driver's side inner boot is flinging grease from near the middle of the boot. This suggests it stuffed. Only 37000k's. Back to Toyota.

Also got a mouse like squeak when I go over bumps. Sounds like it's coming from front left area. Any thoughts?

Cheers!

Cant comment on the CV boots but with the squeek make sure that the bonnet latch is lubricated where the loop is held in the jaw of the catch. My 02 Hilux needed attention here to stop is squeeking.
Regards Ken.

Cheers for info. So by spring retainer do you mean on the rear leaf springs where there's like a band that clamps them together?

Hey Plantman,

As a former mechanic, you are entitled to get your CV's repaired under warranty but the dealership will only replace the boots........ They will pull them appart, clean and remove all the old grease and put it back together...... Once damage starts in CV joints by way of boots leaking grease and dirt and grit entering, the damage is irraversable and very soon you will need new CV's. This is ok if you plan to sell the car but not if u plan to keep it. Try to insist on having new shafts fitted from the start. Explain to the dealer that once dirt gets into the shafts the damage cannot be fixed by way of simply replacing the boots.
I ended up being a used car mechanic once I finished my apprentiship and the amount of cars I used to see come back into the workshop 2 weeks after warranty ran out due to the bodgy repairs I would do was not funny.........
I lasted 6 months in that job and have not been a mechanic since. That was 15 years ago.
