Hi all,
I am looking to replace the floor in my Cub off road camper trailer.
The existing floor is kind of like fibreglass and has sagged and looks vert untidy.
Was considering replacing with Aluminium checker plate but i'm not really sure about strength and weights etc.
The trailer is a flip over camper which means the weight of the material is important. (can't be too heavy)
Would three mm be thick enough?
Has anyone done this before?
Any idea on how much it may cost?
I am located near gosford.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Chris.

Smart Aluminium may be in your state - they are here in SA - they have just about everything ally, but get the wallet warmed up - that stuff costs.

For the South Aussies, Paramount Browns keep a limited range of aluminium. Used to get a sheet of 2.4 x 1.2 x 1.6mm chequerplate for $99. Don't know what is the current price.

We have a 'connex' at work that doubles as a workshop when we go on trips and it has 6mm checkerplate on the floor. We regularly stack about a ton of gear most of which is mounted on wheels so has very localised loading) in the box and wack it on a truck to be shipped across the country. It has been in use now for about 10 years and the frame of the connex has rusted out but the floor is still good.

I priced some replacement today $490 for a 1200x2100x6mm sheet. Glad I'm not paying for it.

For foot traffic, 3mm should be OK, but a little cold under foot. You wouldn't want to getout with sweaty feet on a sub zero morning, or you won't get far 8-( .

Chris

I saw some 3 mm Aly chequer plate at Bunnings Thornleigh a few weeks back, so no doubt the Central Coast stores will have it too.

Just check out the weight though - its about 8.1 kg per square metre. For say 2 metres wide by 2.4 metres long that's about 40 kilos. You may find you have to work harder to throw it over. I'd be pretty sure it would be strong enough though.

Another thought - could you get Cub to suply a new floor in fibreglass? Or could you put a couple of aluminium angles across the existing floor and stiffen it up?

Can't remember price though.

Good luck
Max

I have found Capral to be a good supplier down here, they do have outlets in all states. I found that going in and talking to the guy's at the factory is the best way and more often than not I could negotiate trade price.

If you're interested, the code for 3mm treadplate(5bar checker plate) is:

R030120120TP510 (1200MM X 1200MM)
R030120180TP510 (1200MM X 1800MM)
R030120240TP510 (1200MM X 2400MM)
R030120360TP510 (1200MM X 3600MM)
R030120366TP510 (1200MM X 3660MM)
R030120600TP510 (1200MM X 6000MM)

Go in armed with your final dimensions as some factories will guillotine it for you, use the codes to sound like you know more than you do... Knowledge is power when you are negotiating prices, if they think you are completely ignorant to what you need/what's on offer, they will take you for the lot...

If you need the codes for other products in the range, give me a yell and I'll get them for you.
