We have just returned from a gulf trip and thought we would post some stats for those interested. 80 series cruiser towing an Aussie Swag camper trailer.
The trip was Narangba (
Brisbane) to Narangba up to
Lawn Hill out through to
Doomadgee (Elizabeth river was about 60-70cm deep but very firm) Across to
Normanton, Kurumba,
Georgetown, The Lynd,
Hughenden, Charters Towers and down through
Emerald,
Eidsvold to home.
Unfortunately found a 3.0l patrol with blown turbo (110000km) near
Riversleigh. Towed it to Adel's Grove but then it had to be trucked to
Cloncurry and RACQ took it to Mt Isa for repairs. Design of oil supply to turbo?????
The trip would have been great if about for 6 weeks but only had two.
Total kms - 5630
Avg consumption - 15.7 l per 100km (17.95 mpg)
Fuel used - 883.75 litres
Total cost - $1240.99
Fuel prices
27/6/06
Roma - 134.9
27/6/06
Longreach - 141.9
28/6/06
Cloncurry - 137.9
28/6/06
Burke & Wills Roadhouse - 157.5
1/7/06 Bourketown - 160.0
2/7/06
Karumba - 146.0
3/7/06
Georgetown - 135.9
4/7/06
Hughenden - 142.8
5/7/06 Charters Towers - 133.9
6/7/06
Emerald - 129.9
6/7/06
Ban Ban Springs - 135.9
8/7/06 Burpengary - 130.9
As said before great trip but wish it could be taken slower. One day I'll retire and then I'll have the time. Fuel cost is more psychological than the actual reality.
Two week trip for $1200 is a bargain! It's the price we pay to go where we want.

It can sound alot but when you think about it.....
If you were going to stay in a hotel or go to fiji or whatever for a holiday, you'd certainly spend more than that just on your accomodation/flight fees for tat sme amount of time away.
Cheers
