Hi There,
Thought, after a couple of red wines, that I would share an experience. We work and travel. We are now modern day swaggies, albeit 4WDriven. We are only in our second year of the homeless wandering state but love it.
We came to Mt Dare as travellers last year after the Canning and discovered they needed staff. Came for 4 weeks stayed 5 months, back again this year till October and no doubt will do the same again next year. Love the isolation and the everchanging company that passes though Mt Dare. Pat and I have met the most delightful people and hope to respond by visiting them in their home territory be that Tassie,
Vic high country (Charlie) or the Eyre Pennisular.
The advantages:
We have done 8 major desert trips of 500-700 km this year. About 5K of
Simpson Desert tracks alone.
We have been to
Cooktown,
Karumba,
Geraldton and
Perth this year and a heap of
places between. We worked at the
Birdsville Pub.
We are currently creating a bypass track for the
Madigan Line that avoids Indigenous Land permits for camps 3, 4 and 5 and will encompass pastoral permission to
the Twins.
So life in Mt Dare on a Saturday night is OK.
Anybody looking for a caretaker for their pub, caravan
park, motel, computer
shop, tourist venture for the summer months, doesn't matter where, we are interested. We are not volunteers and expect a fair return.
For all of you wanting to make the plunge in the nefarious life of the swaggie, just do it. There are an amazing number of people, organisations wanting people all the time in the outback.
Regards
Ian and Pat@Mt Dare

Yeh,
Its on the western side of the
Simpson Desert 503 km from The
Birdsville pub, 252 to the
Kulgera pub on the Stuart Highway and 250 km to the
Oodnadatta pub.
The new pub is coming on gangbusters and we will be in serving grog before August. Finishing might take a little longer.
Cheers

Ian,
Are we allowed to scrawl on the walls of the new pub? Some interesting bits on the 'old' walls :))))))))
