Does anybody have any real time update on the road conditions for the CSR and Tanami. The details on the site here are 11 months old on the Canning and 5 months old on the Tanami(site shows it is closed). Somebody must have been down these tracks and returned to tell the tale recently!

I went up the Tanami at the beginning of May . It had just been opened after lots of rain had caused it to be flooded in spots .
It is a good dirt road these days - it aint a track nomore . Even after the rain had chopped it up a bit we still got through in two days without pushing it .
I was on the CSR between the Calverts turn off and Durba Springs at the beginning of June and that section was in good nick .
Maybe now that the Martu have control of the area the government will come in and spend millions of dollars to grade a superb dirt road all the way from
Wiluna to the Tanami . I am sure they will come out a couple of times a year to shoot turkeys , so it would be putting the money to good use .

Thanks Willie, but do I detect a touch of cynicism there?

Tanami - Alice to
Yuendumu on Wednesday dirt section was badly corrugated in
places and due for grade (who knows when). OK for good 4wd but would be a bit severe at times for vans I suspect.
2 Govt vehicles rolled in Central Aust in last 10 days.!!! don't know what 1 was like other was soft corrugated sand so I'm told.

Thanks for the replies - take it slow and easy. Was like that last time I was there too. Just hoped it would be improved.

Hi rustytruck, Members of our club just finished the Canning, they are at
Wiluna at the moment. Info I have thus far is only from phone calls but they had a ball.
The only major issue was between
well 32 and 33 I think, one 20kms stretch took out 15 shocks on 7 vehicles. There was a Great Divide tour there at the same time I think they lost lots of shocks as
well.
As I said it was only one strech, it seemed to be the vehicles at the back of our crew, i.e the cars going slower. This may have had an influence.
Vehicles as follows (from memory)
TD Jackaroo, 5YO factory shocks, blew all 4
05 GU, Factory shocks, blew 3
Another vehicle spat 3 Konis,
One OME went and Another vehicle lost 2 or 3 factory shocks, GU tray I think.
F250 V8 no probs and GQ tray with Ranchos no problem.
Only other probs were one tyre sidewall stack when pulling off the track for smoko, unlucky and Bacteria in the fuel filter of the 05 GU 3.0l
