Can anyone tell me if the 1994 3 litre V6 Pajero engine is the same as the Magna V6 of the same era 94' 95' 96?
Is this an acceptable engine changover, the Pajero has destroyed the crankshaft.

Be careful, because there may be subtle differences like oil pick up etc.

Thanks for the tip, the carnk is gone, big chip out of the side of it and it's chewed up beyond repair. A new crank is $1500 approx, a second hand one is $200 to $300, but you get what you pay for.
I just thought that I could get a second hand V6 magna cheaper than it would be for a rebuild on the Pajero. Much easier, faster, and less traumatic to the wallet.
Thanks for your tips anyway.

I know that there are a few different versions of the 3.5l engine even in the Pajeros. They make changes that bring the torque lower down and such like. However if you get the whole engine with computer and manifolds it should be possible to fit it.

I was told they are different engine when I was seeking quotes for replacement short & long motor. Not specific on why the difference but I think obvious is valve timing due to rev range as 4by torque is down lower in rev range (so camshaft issue here) but as to other aspects maybe ring an engine reconditioner (not supplier but reconditioner - one who grinds the crankshaft etc) and they will be able to tell you.

Other issue could be bellhousing bolt spacing , flywheel, clutch etc. be carefull before committing $.

Hope this helps Barry

I know there are lots of differences with the CPU mapping etc on the Magna verses the Paj, including if its auto chages in the kick down rates etc. Internally their is no difference with crank, pistons, strock etc. I would suggest just use the internals from the magna donk in the Paj block. If the Pistons are still OK on the Paj, just hone it and use them still also.

Hope you get up and running soon
