Hi "all knowing ones",

Can anyone advise of a free (or close) camping option between Tailem Bend and the Coorong? I'm planning on leaving Adelaide for a few nights in the Coorong after work (say 6pm), having a counter meal at say Tailem Bend, and then looking for somewhere to throw the swag down for the night before hitting the Coorong proper the next morning (rather than leaving in the morning and having a few hours drive).

Can anyone give advice as to any spots to camp for the night? even if they mean a bit of a detour?

Thanks if you can help
Trevor

Narrung Peninsula. You can go via a ferry to Narrung and free camp near the ferry landing on a large lush grassy area, flushing toilets, gorgeous sunsets and a quiet environment. You then continue driving through the peninsula and come out at Meningie.

The setting sun lit up the only inland lighthouse in Australia, no longer used, which used to guard the passage between the Murray River mouth lakes of Alexandrina and Lake Albert, as viewed from our Narrung campsite on the edge of the lake. The lighthouse and old buildings on the rocky point could have been in Cornwall UK. I hope the photo posts ok - if not it is in my gallery for a bit.

The best caravan park of the trip (although we don't go to many) was on the Coorong at Policeman Point. It was excellent and cheap. Enjoy your trip.

It might sound too good to be true but I have stayed there and it is a nice cap spot. Can get a tad windy though.

Ditto.. Great spot.. right next to the road is the only down side but given that the traffic is certainly very light.. hardly a problem.. beaut spot..

It was totally quiet the night we stayed there; no traffic at all during the night. I even missed seeing a truck of cattle go across on the ferry in the morning. The other campers were spread out and as quiet as we were. Lovely spot.

The others may correct me, but i I think there were some barbeques over near the jetty - there was a group camped there. Otherwise it is just lush kikuyu grass at water level (some wet patches), but it looks like someone has had a fire on the grass. Not a fire hazard here!
