I have an Air Commander roof mounted reverse cycle air con mounted on the roof of my caravan.
Can anybody advise me what size generator would be needed to run it? I would also be running other items at the same time such as lights and fridges

I use the Honda Eu2.0 and it will run the a/c and other low load items at the same time. If the a/c is on and I use the jug or microwave then I switch the a/c to fan only while the other items are on.

Regards Derek.

measure your maximum current draw of all items you expect to run at the same time.....with out this info its impossible to give an accurate answer...
any answers given on the info you have posted are guesses or at very best ones own experinces which may not be suited to what you want.

The limiting factor is the start-up current surge of the airconditioner and the generators ability to cope with it. This is complex to describe (amplitude of surge current and time) and no-one publishes complete data on their equipment.

During a blackout I ran our large 2-door fridge using a 500 watt Sinewave Inverter with no problems.

I tried running our neighbours large 2-door fridge - the Inverter cut out at switch-on. I tried the Kipor 1kVA Sinewave generator with SmartThrottle off - it still cut out at switch-on even though it had twice the output.

If you want to be absolutely sure, then the ONLY way is to borrow the Generator you are thinking of buying and try it out with the airconditioner you will be using.

I know I get in trouble for this one........but why would you want to go camping if you need a gernerator for your airconditioner and other 240 apliances?
CAMPING..........wonder where the word comes from and what it means.
Don't forget the satelite TV and at least one laptop each.
Not long now and we learn the american accent in primary school.
Happy Camping

cheers
