Has anyone else noticed how after driving on dusty roads there is a build up of dust around the filler neck, under the fuel cap but on the outside of the seal.Today filling up I noticed there was about three milimetre build up of dust sitting around the rim and while your unscrewing the cap ,some of it falls of onto the thread on the cap BUT when you put the fuel pump nozzle into the tank,LOTS of dust falls into the tank filler. There was a troopy parked next to me and had his fuel caps sitting on the bowser and they too were coated in dust.Surely this carnt be good for a fuel system even with a filter.
Was going to put dense foam under the cap to fill the space up that lets the dust build up but this may hinder the cap breather(Im guessing the cap has a breather).Any ideas as after having the most expensive pump and injector rebuild in Australia I dont want to do it again.
100 Series owners beware.

I have an HJ61 and I get similar problems. I have thought about putting a little tube from inside the car to perhaps the top of the panel above the fuel filler. My idea is that some extra air coming from inside the car would somewhat pressurise the little compartment there, similar to what you do to keep the dust out of a caravan.
I realise that the tank flap is not sealed, or even a reasonably tight fit, but I don't you would need much pressure there to keep the dust out.

hi nick,
we have a 62 series , and while the amount of dust has never been a great issue , i have on occasion used an air gun attached to an air tank, fed be an arb compressor to blow away the excess dust on our camper and car prior to setting up camp. it is quick and easy, and does a good job.
as far as rebuilding injector pumps in concerned, i have just been down that road so i share and feel your pain (mainly in the check book ) lol.

regards johno.

It's not just a 100 series thing. My GU was like that when we travelled up thru Milstream NP.
