Hi all,
After some comments on the towing capability's of a 1991 Nissan Patrol Auto on Gas.
It is the 4.2 engine with a carby.
Also is the Auto a 3 speed with overdrive or just a three speed.
Many thank's in advance,
Chris

you would be better off with a diesel auto.

Hi chriswoo
If ya going to tow with and auto patrol the lockup convertor is a problem because it locks up and unlocks depending on the speed and is very anoying .
If you contact JULAND ELECTRONICS in Witfield Victoria they sell a trans locker
to suit Patrol ,it allows you to lock the convertor at a speed that suits you ,
I have one fitted to my GQ and is good ,
check it out , cheers mechpete.

Thank's guy's.
After abit of negotation with the car yard i actually took the thing for a drive with my boat on the back.
It surprised me somewhat and went
well.
With an AT cooler and the locker mod you guy's have outlined, i am sure she will se plenty of fishing trip's into the future.
Thanks again guy's for providing the best Aussie 4x4 info on the net....
CHRISWOO.

Thank's for that,
I had read that in these threads somewhere else...it seems to be an issue more so if gas is installed.
All i can do, i guess, is take some precautions, like good oil, good coolant and and maybe a "Flash-Lube" kit.
And when i go away for a long trip, (if there is such a thing here in Tassie) take a bucket-o-
water with me...
Is it true that the heads for both the diesel and petrol are the same??

Nope, diesel heads are cast iron, petrol ones are aluminium. The exhaust manifold bolt pattern is the same though, so extractors for a petrol will fit a diesel.
