Hello All,

I am looking for the printed instruction booklet that came with the winch. Does anyone have a pdf copy of these instructions and if not, does anyone know where I can get a copy of them.

Many, many years ago in Adelaide I bought a hand winch called a Thomas "Pull-A-Long Elephant Looper" that has a 2,600kg straight line pull. The winch has a metal label stuck on the side that refers to a Queensland company called "Winch Industries". I have contacted Winch Industries and they told me that they have not sold this winch for over 20 years and are unable to help me and suggested that I contact a 4WD accessories supplier.

I have had a problem with the winch and jammed the cable inside the winch, which has required me to pull the winch apart and cut the very badly kinked cable.

I have looked high and low for the printed instruction booklet that came with the winch, but am unable to find them. Does anyone have a pdf copy of these instructions and if not, does anyone know where I can get a copy.

As I needed to cut the cable I also need to get another cable (the label says Part No. TK378), do you know where I can get one and roughly how much this would cost.

Thanks,

Dave T

Dave,
I've got one of those winches!!
I've got absolutely no idea where the manual has gone, I don't even remember receiving one when I bought the winch. I did buy it new too!
I'll have a scratch around and see if I can find anything!
As to the cable, I'd go to someone like BHP Lifting, the old Bullivants with an offcut of the original cable, I suggest the hook end.
They should be able to measure it, tell you how it's laid and the stranding of the cable. They should also be able to swage the original hook onto the new cable.
They should be able to taper the free end to feed through the winch.

Don't know if I've helped or not,

Geoff.
Geoff,

Grey hair is hereditary, you get it from children. Baldness is caused by watching the Wallabies.

Thanks for your reply Geoff,

My main problem is that when I pulled the winch apart a U shaped piece of metal fell out and I am not sure which way it needs to go back.
The U shape metal has holes in it and is held by the bolts that go through the winch body. I just need to know whether the open side of the U shape should face down or face up.
Funny... I took note of where every other piece went, but this just 'dropped' out when the body of the winch pulled apart after I removed the bolts that held the case together.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello All,

I have finally found the instructions and parts diagram. Think I will electronically copy them and store them in a safe place.

Thanks again Geoff for you help.
