I think that radio is for Amateur (Ham) bands. Not suitable for CB UHF if thats what you're after!!

You cannot legally operate this radio without at least a foundation amateur license, which BTW is not that difficult to obtain, having just passed it myself.
The radio will also not transmit on UHF CB frequencies without modification.

Hi Steve

Welcome to the Amateur Radio world. I've been a Full Call (don't know what it's called these days) for over 25 years.

I've just got a GME off the shelf job. I think its a 3200. There is a remote head model also (4400??). Like tyres & fridges, everyone will have a different idea.
What sort of budget for a radio with antenna did ya have in mind??

Yep Im right for tyres and fridge : ) I though a budget of $5-600 would do . Could I use my Old Cb spring mount base and cable,If not I will spend a bit more.

Check out the UHF radios (the usual 40 channel, for car-to-car comms, etc) at Prestige Communications.

www.prestigecom.net.au/

I notice by your sig you are in Perth. These guys have some very good prices and are located in Balcatta. No problems getting a unit and arial for under $500.

Just need to pick the GME/Uniden/ICOM unit that suits you and your vehicle.

Hope it helps.
