I am running 215/85r/16 cooper st tyres on 6'' steel rims diameter 774mm my question is anybody running 245/75r/16 tyres on 6'' rims ,the diameter is only 1mm
larger. The cooper tyre site states 6.5 to 7.5 for these tyres.would like the extra width but not if i have to buy new rims.

I am running 235/85-16 on 6" rims.
235 is about the widest recommended for 6" rims.
Suppose you could make them fit, but the handling would be pretty poor.
The 235s tuck under a fair bit already, 245 would be worse.
Sure you can't pick up some 2nd hand 7" rims?
7x16 seems a reasonably common size these days in steel.
I just made up another set of 4 rims with 6x16 rims by buying 4 off a 2nd hand tyre dealer.
Nissan 6 x 16 for $20.00 each.

I am running the 16x5.5 rims on a lux and was in the same position as you.
Currently am running 225 as I am on 5.5 wide rims.
But I would definately go bigger than 235 on your rims.

Hey there Friar
I run 245/75/16s on my Jackaroo 7 inch rims. I tried to invisage taking 1/2 an inch off the rim width and come to the conclusion that it would be too wide, the sides would bulge out substantially from the rim. Just my opinion.
