Gidday all, for anyone who is interested, TJM Adelaide have in stock the GU Pillar 3-gauge pod. The bad news is that they are now $150 (and are still unpainted; charcoal black).

Cheers,

Truckster

EGT gauges to fit on the 3.0L on the exhaust outlet (best place to get meaningful results is rather difficult and expensive), but I imagine you have the 4.2 so it may not be a problem. With the boost gauge I started off with a $45 Speco special from ebay, it was a complete waste of money, very shaky action and buzzed incessantly in the cab. Binned it within two days and paid $130 for a AutoMeter Boost only gauge, quiet, smooth action. And when you get it fitted if the guy tells you they can't do it a particular way and they "could try something else" then go elsewhere. I wasted $150 at one place for a second-rate job, then went to one of the local 4WD places and they redid the entire in cab part of the installation, exactly how I wanted for $50 less.

Regards

Snowy

Cheers for that Snowy. My 4.2 has a Beaudesert system under it and as such there is already a nipple ready to go to fit the pyro. Fitting the boost gauge shouldn't pose any problems.

Trucster, where did you plumb (T-off) the boost from??

Yea I got VDO in the GQ, wanna stay with them if I can, they will match the 2x VDO Volt in the dashpod.

Denco setup comes with places already for the Boost in the crossover pipe, and EGT in the zaust.

We have the pillar pods for the GU's, and a new batch should be arriving today. If you're chasing one, give Brett a call (07) 3299 4460, and he'll put one aside for you. Also, let him know that Terry from the Patrol forum sent you. I'll be back from the comp Monday, so alternatively give us a bell then on that number.

Hi Craig,

I am presuming it is the same one I bought from ARB northside in Caboolture for $100. I don't know why they didn't come out in Grey to match the rest of the panels inside but anyway.....

Someone showed me a link to Chaz's website with the same pod painted grey.
link
His was painted in a vinyl enamel close to other panels, turned out nice in my opinion.

Cheers Trevor.

I've got a pod from Qld as well. Advice on painting is to use "trim paint" but I haven't found the right colour yet!! When I do, it'll go in to the wagon in abt 3 weeks. Already have the VDO gauges ready to fit.

Cheers

Gents,
Does anyone know if there is anything similar for an 80 series DX. Those pillar pods look ok.

Andrew,

To my knowledge it is only available for GU Patrols. If it was available for any other vehicle it would have to be the cruiser so it may be worth ringing either of the suppliers mentioned.

I dunno If it's "trim paint" but you can get a paint that wrinkles as it dries. The heavier the coat the more it wrinkles.

I painted the back of my cibie oscar spotties with it and they came up great. Similar look to vinil trim.

Trucky,

Chaz is the only one I have seen with a painted version. The link I put up (above) is to his website, maybe have a good look around there and he may have an email link where you can ask him directly. OR we can wait to see how red's turns out.

Me.... I've just left mine black. Does'nt look too bad.

Trev, thanks for the link to Chaz's site - that's where I first came across the pillar pod. Looks great painted, but I think I might leave mine black, like yours in the rig pics (doesn't look too bad at all).

Nope....been slack! Actually, I am trying to fit out the camper at the moment so the gauges/pod has been put on the backburner for a few weeks. Not sure if I'll paint the pod yet, might just chuck it in standard black and see what the missus suggests. Seen a few pics of them left black and they don't look too bad.

The closest matych I ccan get at this stage to the trim colour is the VHT Colour Dye Paint in Buckskin Tan Satin. What about you??

OK folks, my pillar pod is painted, populated with gauges and fitted!! (-:

I went down to a local automotive paint place here in Perth and showed the guy what I wanted done. Gave him a bit of trim from the wagon (wasn't gunna pull out the A-pillar trim till I was totally happy with everything else!!) and his first attempt was a bit too grey. His 2nd go was perfect!! Cost $30 all up (no charge for 2nd colourmatch) including a 1/2 litre tin of Prepsol to clean up the new pillar pod after drilling holes/test-fitting /trimming etc., prior to painting. Paint came in a spray can with a very neat nozzle (no splattering/clogging). No primer needed, and the end result looks smick with no peeling/scratching etc.

Boost is in bottom slot, pyro next then ammeter in the top.

Looks very similar to Chaz's setup which is shown elsewhere. When I take pics I'll post 'em up or at least provide a link!!

Himb...I mean Red is a happy guy. ;-) ;-)

Any questions abt the install, feel free to ask!

Cheers
Red

Hi Red,

Much paint left over in the can???? LOL
Sad we can't post spray can's (in Aust post) or I'd nearly buy the rest of the can off you.

Regards, Trevor.
