I have some detailed maps which are in Adobe. Is it possible to convert these maps for Oziexplorer? I don't want to print these out, scan and import as there are just too many to process. If it can be done I also want to convert the files for CE as
well. Surely there is away to do this?? Thanks in anticipation folks.

Hi Leigh, you have to strip the image out of the adobe file somehow and save to a common format such as JPG or PNG and then calibrate the image for use in Ozi.
I did a few thousand Adobe files a few years back using ghostscript and ghostview to convert the image into png files. Someone should come up with a more user friendly method though.

By being in "Adobe" format - I presume you mean they're in native Photoshop .psd format.
If this is the case, then you can set Photoshop to "batch process" the files via a scripted Photoshop "action" that you record once and then repeat on a folder-full of files until they are all opened, converted and saved into another folder as .png or .jpg, or whatever else you want. Use automation - you don't need to do each one separately.

Hello - I have converted quite a few pdf files to a format suitable for OziExplorer. I use Adobe Photoshop but this is expensive to buy so not an option for everyone. You can however just use the Adobe reader to save to the clipboard (use snap shot and then paste into a graphics program) but you lose quality. A program like Ghostscript will convert pdf to suitable format
www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/doc/AFPL/index.htm
but I have never used it so can offer no direct advice
This has been discussed several times on oziExplorer yahoo group
groups.yahoo.com/group/OziUsers-L
you may wish to search archives for additional info
Cheers

Leigh it's a time consuming process particually calibrating each map sheet. If you were going to do one or two maps it may be viable but if you had say the full set of 1:250K Victorian topo fire maps for example then it takes ages (I know someone who tried & gave up) & would be far easier to
fork out for maps already set up for Ozi.

Yes I sourced a set of fire maps for a mate who proceeded to calibrate them over a 6 month period. When I arrived with a later set of Topo maps already set up for Ozi I wasn't sure if he was going to kill me for giving him the first set or hug me for saving him from processing the other half :-))

hahaha, poor bugga, bet he didn't know if to laugh or cry.
Their were about 6 of us with one guy controlling the operation who calibrated the firemaps for Vic. Took about 12 days to get over 1600 maps done, we then released them for the good of all..hahaha

Leigh,
Which ones. If they are off any disks I gave you I've probably already done them.
If not I'll give you a hand if you give me a ring. There'll be a disk I'll have to mail down unless CoM already owns one of the programs which they probably will.
The rest is easy.

Thank you for your advice. The files are in PDF and I suspected the solution lay in a complex set of processes. In any event the indexing of 100's of maps will take forever so I may just sit and refelct on this for a while. Again thank you all for your advice. Cheers

Leigh,
My apologies for a late response, just catching uo with the posts.
Software "Universal Document Converter" from " target="EOF" class="lbg">www.print-driver.com/
is an add-on to Acrobat Writer which I use to convert .pdf files to a format for importing and callibrating in OziExplorer.
All I have to do is to "print" to the converter and then enter the type of format I wish to export to.
This system is good for one offs but not for a large region.
I usually convert 4 x 50K and then merge into one large .map file.
regards
Mike
PS Usual caveats apply and I have no connection with the company mentioned in this post!
