Hello,

together with my girlfriend (soon to be my wife) i'm planning a trip to West Australia. First we're gonna visit some relatives in Perth. Then we would like to rent a car and drive to Monkey Mia, and slowly back south again to Perth, visiting Kalbari, Nambung ect. on the way.

Our planning is to drive the first day from Perth to Geraldton. I guess an easy drive to get used to the car and driving in Australia.
The second day we want to drive from Geraldton to Monkey Mia.
But instead of driving along a (as i have been told) quite boring North West Highway, we would like to take a detour into the outback and drive the first leg of the WoolWagon Pathway. That is from Geraldton to Murchison Settlement (Wooleen station), and from there back to the highway (Overlander Roadhouse) and on to Monkey Mia.

We are planning to do this trip in October 2007 (this will be our honeymoon holiday). We will be driving in a Compact 4wd (according the rental compagnie a Mitsubishi Outlander, Toyota RAV4 or something similar, so not a real heavy 4wd)

Is it possible to make this trip? Or is the distance too long? And i don't have any 4wd experience yet, can i make this trip in Oktober with this kind of car?
I am used to long drives though (1000 to 1300 km along europe's highways in one day).

Best regards,
Frank

Easy trip, should have no problems with your 4wd. The only thing that may stop you going along the track to Murchison sellement (road house I assume) is heavy rain when the track may be closed.

Thanks for your answers!

So if the weather is good and the roads are open, it's possible to do this trip with this car? Despite my lack of 4wd experience and the car which is not a "real and proper" 4wd car?

We are ofcourse planning to take a rest stop at Murichon settlement, meet the people and see the history, But the plan is to drive to Monkey Mia to stay over there for the night.

According the site DriveWA the trip from Edwardton to Murichon is almost 3 hours. How long will it take to drive from Murichon to Overlander Roadhouse?
