I am about to fit a turbo to my '97 4.2Ltr diesel patrol and was wondering about getting it decoked first. Has any body had any experiencies to the benefits and or problems with this process. Getting rid of all the gunge that has built up of the years has to be good -judging by the colour of my oil changes I think I may have quite a build up of gunk.

Regards....

Search for CEM in here...

Diesels will always dirty the oil, even after 10 mins after a change.

Except for the Td5 in the Landy - which uses a centrifugal rotary filter (in addition to the standard spin-off type) which spins off soot particles and separates them from the oil. My oil (Mobil1) is still clear after 9,000km. (recommended 10k change).

I used the CEM close to a year ago and still use the left over after the initial "big" dose , my oil stays "clean" upto the 4000k or so mark then slowly starts to get black ,oil + filters every 5 thou ,80series factory turbo diesel auto with 360,ooo on clock ,so NOT all diesels will dirty the oil 10min after a change.

My 1999 4.2 also started life as a non-turbo. Previous owner fitted a Denco water cooled.
One small point you may want to check out.
According to my mechanic, there are some differences between the turbo and non-turbo Patrols, including the con-rods and crank shaft, compression and possibly gearing.
Check out this site : www.highwaydiesel.com.au/perform.htm
and this one : Site Link
(plenty of others - plus the Patrol forums).
I haven't had any problems, but worth knowing before you spend the $.
