Has anybody out there had problems with sagging front doors on a GU Patrol?
My bride is a little short and uses the door handles of the car to launch herself up and into our Patrol. (This has now been stopped, but too late) I don't get to drive it often, so it was quite a surprise to find a distinctive sag on both doors.
Any suggestions to best remedy the issue?

I have thought this has been happening slowly over time to my drivers doors. It now closes with a little clunk, evidence of the door clunking over the sill can also be seen on the sill.
I have not looked into it at all so have no suggestions for a remedy.
After all it has not started to leak as yet.

Hey Trevor
Thanks for the response.
Mine had a little clunk...now she's got louder. Not leaking yet...but now annoying me.
The pin through the hinge seems to have flogged out the hole to some extent.
I wonder if this has made the hinge terminal..eg needs replacement?
Rather than replacement of the pins.

That seems to be a fairly common problem. New door hinges are on ebay fairly cheaply (35 dollars at the moment)

The hinges on ebay are for GQ Patrol.

TBF,
how did you end up regarding the door hinges off ebay or wherever you were making the enquiry to?

G'day Trevor
Results of inquiries are as follows:
No aftermarket GU hinges in captivity.. Nobody makes them yet!!!!!!!
Nissan want about $80 a door.
Spoke to a local panel
shop and they said to do both doors, parts and labour is about $600. Not less than.
Thats a lot of money..but he says there is a lot of labour involved getting to the back of the hinges.
Hopes this helps your upcoming decision..

Just got back from Local Nissan Dealer....
That was $80 per hinge...x 2 for 1 door. + GST
Got trade and it cost for 1 door $153.00c inc GST
That hurt.

Trevor
Just did both my front doors...$306 for the parts.
My son and I did them at 30 minutes a side...
That works out at 2hrs labour together.
about $150 an hour each...I was quoted at least $300 on top of parts to do it.
Now I am not so unhappy.

Nice, can now allocate savings to something important, like filling up the Waeco or Engel.
Don't ask me why we polish and detail our cars as I did this yesterday and found my back door (the one with the spare tyre hanging off it) is doing the same as my drivers door. Metal to metal rubbing paint off. MORE WORK as this door is leaking DOH !! Strangely though it is rubbing above the top hinge (around where the window is) and I would have expected it to be the other way round if anything, as all the weight indicates the top of the door should be pulling away from the car when door is open....leaving a gap at the top if anything. But oh no not
mine mmmm???
Cheers for the response TBF.
Regards, Trevor.

Gday
Check the hinges for slackness...then get a piece of 3x2 and lever the door up till it fits ok... That is a rough way and efective...I imagine that others will have a different way of repairing the sag
have a nice day

Mr TBF,,,it comes down to simple physics really,, the door is only supported by the hinges on one side when open,,,,,lean on the unsupported side enough times and eventually it will sag.
Got the same problem with my Mazda 929, remedy is new hinges/pin's.

HI there - i have had this same problem over the years with different cars, although fords seam to be the worst with this problem ( have a ford fairlane with Broken hinge mounts - so will break out the mig this weekend and nail it down)
anyway - most door hinges use a small plastic bush - i have replaced them in the past with Brass bushes that i have turned up with my lathe. - some are easy to get out others may require a little cutting with a cut of disk on a small grinder then reweld in place
bending the door UP is not a very good idea and will only be a VERY short term solution with the end result being worse.
Long and short - if you have a friend that is a fitter and has access to a lathe and welder - then offer them a case of beer and do the job properly ....
