G,day all,

Has anybody successfully fitted a piranha second battery tray in a current model prado V6 petrol engine bay.

The crappy instructions say 1 hour ha!!!!

I've just spent the last three and a half trying and ended up returning stuff to the original position.

If you were successful did you need to extend the length of the side outlet hose of the resevoir or was yours (read the hose!) long enough.

Did you need to modify any of the bracketting to fit the resevoir where it needs to be positioned and did you alter it (shape or extra holes )at all to maintain any clearances for other pipework or wiring etc.

I ask about the clearances because I'm worried re vibration and things rubbing against what they shouldn't be (purely in the mechanical sense of course) and any consequential damage that may arise.

And this damage would of course occur at the most inconvenient time and place!!!

Hope there are some competent people among you who had better results than I have.

Thanks in advance
Garth

Can’t help you specifically with a Piranha one, but I just installed a dual battery system from ABR (board sponsor) that took approximately 2 hours in my 120 series 4.0L. I had to (per instructions) modify and move the power steering reservoir and relocate the hoses, but all fitted just fine with no problems with the original lengths of the hoses. I did have to (again per instructions) drill one extra hole to facilitate the repositioning of the bracket, but the end result looked like it came from the factory that way.

You may also want to ask your question over on pradopoint.com

Hi Geoff

Glad to hear my instructions are easy to follow.

I have just completed the V8 LC100 kits with the same power steering mod.

Keep well.

Regards Derek.

Garth, Yes, I had similar trouble and got the local Auto electrician to help me. It took about 1.5hours and we had to extend the PS reservoir and I got him to put some sleeves over the hoses as they finish up quite close the the engine block and fan belt. Also had to modify the bracket to make th e whole thing nice and secure.
Works a treat.

Craig,
What build month/year is your's?

Mine is 8/03 and the air conditioning s/s pipework is the problem. It sits proud of the engine bay.
I checked out some prado's today at toyota and the pipework is lower and closer to the body.
Thus the hoses are long enough and would fit as intended by Piranha although the way the instructions are written I'm supposed to move the resevoir and hose up and over this pipework so it still seems a bit suss.

Thanks for the reply

Hi Garthski,

Just had Piranha themselves install their battery tray (Amongst other stuff) to my 05 V6 Prado.

Took them less than 1 hour and no lengthening or extending needed. Everything is neat, secure and out of harms way. Therefore I assume it should be the same for you.

Unless the wrong kit was supplied.????

Couldn't be happier with their service.

Regards
Alan

Allan,

I checked out some prado's at Toyotao today and i think I've found my problem.
Mine is an 8/03 model and the air conditioning s/s pipework is the problem.
On the newer models it is lower and mounted closer to the engine bay.

Mine sits proud about two inches from the bodywork and thus I need to get the p/s tubes over this.

Otherwise it would be easy peasy.

Anyway thanks for the reply.
