When I sit at the lights on an incline and I just edge ahead a bit , the car starts shuddering forward . If I accelerate off from the lights I have no problems - it is only creeping forward up a slight hill .

Does anybody have ant ideas about what might be causing this .

Thanks a lot ,

Willie .

First thought - turn on the aircon and see if it goes away with a few more revs. If so, up the idle speed a bit.

Not something stupid like a blocked air or fuel filter by any chance?

How long since the auto has been serviced? Does it need new oil or a bands adjustment??

Happy hunting - hope you find a littlie.

Hi Max ,

I was driving it home from a service at ARB . They were told about it and noticed it when they test drove it , but did not have time to check further and could not guess what was causing it .

I think it would be best to take it to an auto gearbox specialist if it turns out , that that is the problem .

But how do I figure out what the problem is ?

Thanks ,

Willie .

Willie,
I have seen many discussions on this subject on this forum about the same problem. I have a shudder in my 10 series also. Most comments are always directed towards teh clutch, in manual vehicle obviously. One thought that did go through my mind, and I may be wrong, what about the clutches in the LSD. If these were not correctly set it would cause a "shudder" that would almost certainly feel like a clutch shudder.

Could be way off the the mark but just a thought.

Willie,
I rekon the diff lock would remove any question about the clutches in the LSD as the new diff center would remove the LSD clutches. It seems most of the other posts have some pretty good advise around the auto trans.

Was a good guess though....I thought.

Cheers

We had to replace 2 gearboxes in auto cars (before we came to our senses and bought a toyota). The shuddering you describe sounds like what both cars did before the gearbox died. (Ours cost $2500 each only 2 months before our wedding!!!)

Get it checked by a auto transmission shop. If it is the gearbox it will be hopefully cheaper to fix before it craps itself. If its not the gearbox then at least the box has had a service and you know to keep looking.

Hope it's easy to fix...
