Has anyone seen one of these in the metal?

Site Link

Local dealer is expecting to see one Friday week, but then things can be a bit sloow in FNQ

What is the early thinking? Can you live with the styling?
Are there Pajero mechenical carryovers?

We passed a group of three on the Lincoln hwy between Pt Augusta and Whyalla two weekends ago. Must have been Mitsi evaluation/test vehicles. Take it or leave it styling......

I seen and read about them on the L200 site over in the UK and like all modern dual cab utes they are just wagons without a boot. The trays are smaller and the stylings more care like. The Australia version will be the 3.2lt DiD, straight out of the Pajero, it's a shame we aren't getting the 2.5lt common rail deisel that o/s has.

Like most new release vehicles they are having problems mechanicly. Despite this it has been voted by readers of the 4x4 Automagazine (Europe) as the Automobile 4x4 of 2006, beating the Navara (second) and Hilux (third).

I will not be trading in my current Triton just yet anyway. I can't afford to even if I wanted to.

"it's a shame we aren't getting the 2.5lt common rail deisel that o/s has. "

The same 2.5 that the brits were spewing wasn't replaced by thw 3.2DiD in their market...??? The 2.5 with a fairly ordinary history of self destructing, especially when chipped for more power...???

Not having a go, just curious as to why you would prefer the 2.5...

Totally agree Blue,

The 3.2DID is one of the most grunty oilers around and i can only imagine what it will be like in a Triton (light rear end and all)

Just to clarify, the 3.2 is the current Pajero mill, is that correct?

Assume that means we have some history of it here?

Seems odd that Mitsu would go with it when the trend seems to be with 2.5 common rail.

Does the triton get the old pajero 3.2DID, while the new 3.2DID in the pajero coming out in Sept will be the 3.2DID common rail?
Current 3.2DID is not common rail.
I have heard that both the triton and pajero are the new common rail?
About the same power specs though to the old model.

To answer Blue's question, I like the idea of a more efficient engine in the form of the common rail with the same power to weight ratio as the current engine. But if the new Triton's getting a common rail 3.2 litre engine that's even better, but I doubt that would be the case, they would save that for the Pajero.

If only I had read further down before posting. I appears the new engine is going to be the common rail 3.2lt. It should be a good vehile.

went to look at one on Saturday. not a bad looking jigger. I had a 2002 GLS and it was a good car. They didn't have a diesel there. It was a GLX-R which had all the goodies plus an optional diff-lock. The sales guy reckoned the GLS would have all the extra fruit like leather, climate control etc. He was 6'2" and could sit in the back with plenty of headroom and reasonable leg room.

Diesel motor has 118Kw & 347Nm.

Hi All,
The new Triton 3.2 Diesel is not directly from the Pajero. It a common rail engine which curiously has a little less power and torque than the Paj unit.

Cheers,

It looks like a storm trooper helmet from the front. Its worth getting for that alone. Anyway the main thing is it does not look like the clay model was left in the sun and went all saggy like the hilux. These days they all are very different units from the early units. This one has proper rake for the rear seats and lots of room. I recon they are propably very good. Traditionaly the triton sells cheaper than hilux and navara but I doubt there is any quality difference, in fact because they are kind of an underdog they may even try that little bit harder to make it good. The main selling point tho - its not a lux.

I'll drink to that!!

Now that I look at it from that view it does kind of have a Darth Vader look about it.

I do like the idea of leaving a Hilux inthe sun to go off,................... sorry soggy,............... sorry saggy............whatever.
