Hi Everyone,
Looking for advice on either the Glind or Piranha showers. Has anyone had any experience or comments with either and also a good dealer to get them from. Also does anyone know what I am up for in terms of cost for one of these.
Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,
About $430-450 for the Glind with the 12lpm pump and another $120 odd to get some-one to fit it if you don't do it yourself.
As for opinions, if you go to the top of the home
forum page ( where all the threads are listed) you will find the sites' search function, print in 'showers' and hit search and you will get heaps of info on those two plus a few others.
Just for the record, I have had my Glind for over a year only and no problems, also I know member Trevor R ( if he hasn't already answered) has had his Glind for a lot longer than that, it's on it's 3rd vehicle I think, and is still working as good as the day he got it.
Happy showering
Pezza

For sure Pezza, My glind saw it's first shower back in 96 and has washed away predictably ever since. Some of the years in between 96 and now, this shower was used for 2 showers per day for an average of at least 150days per year. So it has served me
well. It looks a little worse for wear with wires bodgey'd up by myself but it still gives good service.
Cheers, Trevor.

When fitting think/ask/may be? to fit it up a bit different to the norm
i fitted
mine with the pick up taped to the 80ltr
tank or to a seperate pick up so that those who what to use,(traveling freinds etc) can supply their own
water & lets me use
creek etc
water have even used saltwater for washing & not waste good
drinking water.(fit a good filter between supply & pump i,m using a shurflo auto pressure pump 11ltrs per min) I also ran the hosing 1 to the heat exchange & on to a small marine (mixer) taps the other straight to the mixer this makes it just like home to get the tempture right & saves a lot of
water

Glind or Piranha ? pros and cons ,,glind fixed to vehicle so u shower next to vehicle and if a diesel takes a fair while to get
water to heat up ,exhaust fumes ect , however glind is always there and takes up no "room".
Piranha comes in a toolbox size case ,is portable ,can be used in kitchen/shower ect ,needs extras as in gas bottle and power source [battery] for ignition and pump.
Then after weighing up the pros and cons we have the COLEMAN ,
totally portable ,no need for extra power source or gas bottle as all built in ,no exhaust fumes ,instant hot
water ,economical even when using the cannisters ,cheap as when using large gas bottle ,,

Yes, true.....until the battery and gas cylinder run out - then there is a need for the extra power or gas bottle which you no doubt would need to pack. In addition, the Coleman unit isn't exactly small itself!
I am sure the Coleman has its place - I have camped with someone who had one and the instant hot
water for washing hands, doing the dishes was great. As for a shower - does not compare to the in car units - the Coleman
water pressure was poor in comparison. In addition, the hoses are not long enough - you had to sit the thing on a table to use it.

Moggs ,cost all of $1 to replace the hose with a longer one , gas cannister is good for 160lt of almost boiling
water ,lot more in shower type temps ,as for pressure each to his own ,extra gas cannisters take up very little room and most carry a 41/2 or 9kg bottle any way ,batt in unit recharges from cig plug ,best of all NO noise from an idleing ,smelling exhaust.

I dont' have either, but the thought of smelly exhaust, more junkunder the bonnet, having to shower by the car, more junk under the bonnet and the advantage of dishes /hot
water for cuppas etc leans me toward the Coleman when I get one. Rays on a 25% off day will bring the total price to below $300. Cool, think I'll go and get one now!

WTF are you guys on LOL! You don't stand next to the exhaust - the shower is in the engine bay! Geez, haven't you guys ever stood around an idling vehicle before LOL.
BTW, I reckon more 'junk' under the bonnet beats carrying around more 'junk' in the back anyday ;-)

I have no doubt the under bonnet showers deliver better showers, I was just supporting a followup to this reply seeing it brought in an extra option of the Coleman. Just voicing my thoughts, and the other thing is the under bonnets may deliver better pressure but at the cost of
water, and if you're using your own
water you need every drop you can get.
D-Jack
p.s. I'm not on anything!

D-Jack, true re:
water - most showerheads have a flow control though no doubt each system has its benefits - I doub that anyone would be dissappointed with either.
Alloy c/t - geez, fire up a gennie or something to make me feel better - I am working and my wife is in bed with a migraine and my daughter is whinging about something or other LOL.

Depends on how you go about it.
with 6 in our family, our only decent choice for a decent shower , is a vehcile shower. We recycle
water where ever possible. Granted , I haven't yet been on a trip that requires absolute
water management.
The Coleman is an excellent idea for instant hotwater , and probably for a couple for a quick rinse off.
For showering a family , nothing comes close to the vehicle setup.

Helton unit is great value, made of copper and works
well, buy direct from helton, heats in no time even in a deisel if fitted properly.
I only needed heat exchanger, think it was about $130, but complete units around $300 mark , much the same as others

Uhmmm... isn't a Piranha shower system just a badge-engineered Glind anyway?

Yes and No.
Piranha bought out McPauls , who bought the old moulds from Glind.
Personal preference is a Glind. Only ones that have a Marine Grade pump as standard rather the RV grade.
I Have a McPauls/Piranha and its OK.
