Hi,

I am expecting to head down from Fraser Island on the 25th of September, returning to Victoria via the Great Sandy National Park - (Cooloola). During this busy time are the beach camp sites at Teewah busy? will I get a site succesfully for 25th/26th/27th of September?

Or can someone recommend somewhere else we could take our camper within the park for the three days? - after 2 weeks on Fraser we will be seeking some peace and quiet away from the crowds.

Regards
Rod

Hi,

You will just catch the first weekend of QLD school holidays so things will be busy. The holidays start on the 23rd as this day has been made a pupil free day.

I reckon the beach will be crowded with limited if any sites available. It could be difficult to find peace and quiet at that time I think.

Options I can think of would be Inskip Reserve which is out towards where you come off the barge from Fraser but again I think it will be very busy. You can also camp at Freshwater which is just up behind the dunes near to where beach camping ends in the North. Also will be busy at this time.

If you go to www.epa.qld.gov.au and select camping bookings and navigate your way in I know Freshwater can be booked on line and I think Inskip Reserve may be the same. Be careful when booking Freshwater that you get a site that can accept a camper as not all do.

The only other spot would be the caravan park in Rainbow Beach which you can pre-book and if you CLICK HERE you will be taken to their web site for more info.

I know the area pretty well so drop me an email if I can help out with any more information.

It is a really popular place and at school holidays is very busy generally.

Rokkitt ,you have nil-zip-zero chance of a peace and quiet beach camp inbetween rainbow and noosa during the holiday period ,that stretch of beach becomes a hoon paradise with campers tent peg on tent peg ,Inskip maybe a bit queiter ,not by much though as the elbow slapper whiting should be on , know of 1 fishing "club" of 150 "members" whose annual 2week trek to Inskip starts on the 22nd.

Hi Rokkitt,

Brian's made some very good comments there. Teewah can get very busy, but you 'may' be lucky during the first week of the hols. Freshwater campgrounds will be quieter and more peaceful, but not all sites are made for a camper and it's a 'first in best dressed' basis. You could go down the Cooloola Way and camp at Harry's Hut which is on the Noosa River, as bush setting, but if it's rained, the track gets very muddy. Good luck :o)

Hi Andrew,

What about Bribie? Would that be quieter and feasable for a camper trailer?

As you know, I know stuff all about the beaches but have been told Bribie is just like Noosa nth shore. I know you know a little about this place hence the suggestion to you.

Regards, Trevor.

Hi Trev, I guess Bribie Island is an option for beach camping although it's 1hr south of Noosa North Shore via the freeway. The beach is approx 30km long with camping just behind the dunes and you can go in search of the WWII gun emplacements & Bribie Fort if you kow where to look. The beach is wide at low tide and easy to tow a CT, but you must get a permit at $32 from Bongaree caravan park.

I doubt if it would be too busy over the holls in the campsites, but it still gets very busy with fourbys up & down the beach.

Cheers, Andrew

Trevor , we had a look at Bribie campsites just the other week .. are 64 designated spots on the "ocean" side , only 6 or 7 are big enough for a c/t , also you need a beach access permit that costs $100 per yr ,can get mthly permits but NO daily ,you also pay the normal camping fees as per nat parks ,,look at www.qld.gov.au/camping then Bribie ,,,,absolute magic spot though .,also looked at poverty point , realy nice camp ground for mainly tents ,no fires allowed in the c/t camping area and looked like a mozzie and midgee paradise when low tide.

Hi,

We will really need some peace and quiet after ten days on Fraser, I would like to see some of the wildlife and relax (just fish) before we return to Melbourne so maybe Bribie is the way to go.....

Are we likely to get a spot? with only 6 or 7 sites available for camper trailers....any other suggestions? - we have the camper trailer and kids in tow.

Thanks
Rod

have a look here
https://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks/iaparks/gds/IAGDS020.do?parkId=4
you can book specific sites online and from memory it says which specific sites are suitable for camper trailers. It a lot slower pace than cooloola no fires allowed though

If you return through Gympie, then Kenilworth is only about 50klms South, on your way home.
The Foresty has an excellent camping reserve called 'Charlie Moreland Park' - Phn (07) 5446 0925.
It is a large area, plus there is another called ' The Overflow'.
There are also other camping grounds in the forestry (with different names).
It may be less busy than the beaches - here is the Qld Govt Site: https://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks/iaparks/gds/IAGDS050.jsp
Look for 'Kenilworth' in the names drop list. It will then load the names of the various campgrounds. This site has good info on all the parks - just search.

Just before Kenilworth is the small town of Imbul. There are several campgrounds there, including one in a deer park.

There are several camping grounds just as you come off the beach at Tewantin. One has recently closed (Wilderness) but there are 2 others (adjacent to the Camel Rides). Sorry but I do not know the name of the camp grounds.

Closer to Brisbane is the town of Woodford, near which is NCBR - Nerum Creek Bush Retreat. Very nice campgrounds. www.ncbr.com.au/

Hi,

Thanks for your tips, we have now booked into "Harry's Hut" campsite on the Noosa River - we will hire a Kayak and enjoy the campfire for a few days......so glad I posted here before heading to Teewah!
